태안군의 ‘CCTV 통합관제센터’가 각종 범죄와 사고 예방에 기여하며 군민의 생활 안전을 지키는 역할을 충실히 수행하고 있다.

지난 9일 밤 9시경, 태안읍 태안서부시장 내 한 점포에서 한 남성이 수족관 내 수산물을 절도하는 모습이 관제요원에 의해 발견됐다. 

관제요원은 즉시 경찰에 신고하였고, 절도범의 이동 동선을 실시간으로 경찰에 전달하여 검거에 도움을 주었다. 태안경찰서는 시장에서 약 250m 떨어진 도로에서 절도범을 신속하게 검거했다.

이들은 범죄, 교통사고, 화재 등 긴급 상황 발생 시 신속하게 대응하여 군민의 안전을 책임지고 있다.

특히, 태안군은 방범, 어린이 보호, 재난, 학교 등 다양한 분야에 총 1900여 대의 고화질 CCTV를 설치하여 군 전역의 우범지역을 철저히 모니터링하고 있으며, ‘안전 도시 태안’ 구축에 큰 역할을 하고 있다.
