충남 천안아산 강소연구개발특구(충남강소특구)가 대한민국의 미래 산업 중심지로 도약하기 위한 발판을 마련하고 있다. 

이 지역은 '미래 유니콘' 기업의 산실로 성장하고 있으며, 최근 연구소기업 33개와 창업기업 49개가 새롭게 설립되었다. 이들 기업은 총 704개의 일자리를 창출하고, 729억 3800만 원의 매출을 기록했다.

충남강소특구는 2020년 지정 이후 빠른 성장을 보여주고 있으며, 기술 이전 및 출자는 105건에 달하고, 기업들이 받은 투자액은 276억 4000만 원에 이른다. 

특히, 차량용 반도체 테스트 핀 개발 업체인 천안 아썸닉스는 창업 2년 차에 100만 달러 이상의 수출을 기록하며 이 지역의 저력을 입증했다.

특히, 내년 2단계 진입을 위해 '차세대 자동차 부품'에서 '미래차 전장 시스템'으로 특화 분야를 구체화하고, 과학기술부의 평가에 중점을 두고 대응할 계획이다.

충남강소특구는 공공기관의 특허 기술 사업화를 통한 기술 창업 활성화와 지역 연구개발(R&D) 거점 육성을 위해 과기부가 도입한 제도로, 정부의 다양한 지원을 통해 기술 개발과 사업화를 촉진하고 있다. 

이 지역은 KTX 역세권인 천안 불당동과 아산 탕정면 일원, 천안 풍세일반산단 일부를 포함하고 있으며, 한국자동차연구원을 중심으로 미래형 ICT 융복합 자동차 부품 특화 연구개발특구로 조성되고 있다.
