신년을 맞아 지역 사회 장애인들의 자립과 권익 향상을 위해 앞장서고 있는 보문장애인자립생활센터(이하, 보문IL센터)를 찾았다. 이번 인터뷰에서 신인수 소장은 전년도 주요 사업 성과와 2025년도 계획을 공유하며, 장애인의 자립을 돕는 데 있어 중요한 메시지를 전했다.

 

아래는 신인수 센터장과의 인터뷰 전문이다. 

 

▼ 보문IL센터의 2024년 주요 사업과 성과는?

 

"보문장애인자립생활센터는 장애인의 자립을 돕는 다양한 사업을 추진하고 있다. 주요 사업으로는 동료 상담, 장애인 권익 옹호, 개인별 자립 지원, 그리고 탈시설 지원 등이 있으며, 이외에도 외부 공공사업과 연계해 장애인 개개인에게 맞춤형 서비스를 다각적으로 제공하고 있다."

 

특히 작년에는 "척수 장애를 겪는 한 남성이 센터의 지원을 통해 자립에 성공한 사례가 큰 성과로 꼽힌다. 그는 사고로 인해 장애를 겪게 되었지만, 센터의 체계적인 지원과 활동보조 서비스 등을 통해 독립적인 삶을 시작할 수 있었다. 장애인 당사자에 대한 2년간의 집중 지원을 통해 스스로 전셋집을 마련하고, 취업과 스포츠 활동까지 병행하는 등 안정적인 생활을 하고 있다."

▼ 올해 사업은 어떤 방향에 중점을 두고 있는지? 

 

"장애인의 자립과 취업 지원에 중점을 둘 계획이며, 장애인 자립의 궁극적인 목표인 취업을 통해 원하는 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 돕고 싶다. 장애인 당사자가 아침에 일어났을 때 일할 곳이 있다는 사실만으로도 삶의 질이 크게 향상될 것이다."

 

특히, "동료 상담 프로그램을 강화해 장애인들이 자신감을 얻고 자립 의지를 키우는 데 주력할 계획이다. 이를 통해 자립 이후에도 지속적인 사후 관리를 제공하며, 궁극적으로 장애인들이 지역 사회의 일원으로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 돕고자 한다."

 

▼ 지역사회에서 장애인 당사자에 대한 자립 지원이 왜 중요한 것인지?

 

"장애인의 자립이 실질적이고 효과적으로 달성되기 위해서는 관련 공공기관 및 지자체와의 협력이 매우 중요하다. 또한, 자립 이후 사후 관리도 체계적으로 이루어질 필요성이 있다. 자립한 장애인 당사자의 경우, 이전에 비해 공공 및 지자체, 기관의 관심과 지원이 끊기는 경우가 많으므로 다시 어려움을 겪는 일이 발생한다”

 

"이러한 어려움을 해소해 나갈 수 있는 통로를 제공하기 위해서 본 센터는 보호 작업장이 아닌 실제 직업 현장에서 당사자들이 자립에 대한 긍정적 경험을 쌓고 급여를 받을 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 데 집중하고 있다." 

 

다시말해 “장애인이 직접 돈을 벌고 스스로 살아가는 실제의 삶을 경험하는 시간들을 통해 자립 역량을 기를수 있도록 지속적인 지원과 모니터링, 사후관리가 반드시 필요하다. 보문IL센터에서는 이 모든 것이 원스톱으로 이루어 질 수 있는 시스템을 구축·실현하기 위해 계속적으로 노력하고 있다."

▼ 신년을 맞아 대전 시민들과 장애인 당사자들에게 전하는 메시지?

 

“장애인을 향한 시선이 '낯설음과 어려움'을 넘어 ‘당연함’으로 익숙해지는 사회를 만들어 주셨으면 좋겠다. 장애인은 단지 불편함을 가진 존재일 뿐, 특별하거나 나쁘거나 멀리할 대상이 아니다. 서로를 이해하고 공감하는 사회가 되었으면 좋겠다."

 

또한, 신인수 소장은 시설에 있거나 자립을 망설이고 있는 장애인들에게 “세상 밖으로 나와 경험하고 부딪혀 보라”는 도전의 메시지를 전했다. 그는 “도전 후에도 길이 막힌다면, 다시 돌아갈 방법은 언제든 마련될 수 있다”며 희망을 잃지 말 것을 당부했다.
