충청남도 논산시가 2025년 조성 예정인 스마트팜 복합단지를 통해 농업의 미래를 선도하는 혁신 모델을 제시할 전망이다. 

특히, 세계 온실 솔루션 분야 1위 기업인 네덜란드의 ‘프리바(PRIVA)’와의 협력을 통해 최첨단 기술을 접목한 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖출 계획이다.

15일 논산시는 메이니 프린스 프리바 대표와 백성현 논산시장이 만나 논산 스마트팜 복합단지의 성공적인 조성을 위한 협력 방안을 논의했다. 

이번 만남은 프리바의 국내 파트너사인 ‘미푸코’와의 일정 중 유일한 지방자치단체 방문으로 이루어졌으며, 메이니 프린스 대표가 한국 스마트팜 사업에 대한 깊은 관심을 표하며 직접 논산을 찾았다.

‘프리바’는 전 세계 15개국에 지사를 두고 온실 제어 시스템 및 환경 제어 기술 분야에서 세계적인 명성을 자랑한다. 백 시장은 “농업과 농촌은 치유와 생명, 관광을 결합해 새로운 가치를 창출할 수 있는 잠재력이 크다”며 “기후 변화에 대응하는 신기술 보급을 통해 농업 생산 비용을 절감하고 농가 소득을 안정적으로 지원하는 것이 중요하다”고 밝혔다.

메이니 프린스 대표는 “지역 생태계를 활용하고 이를 집약화하는 것이 미래 농업 혁신의 핵심”이라며 “프리바의 데이터와 기술력이 논산의 스마트 농업 비전과 결합해 큰 변화를 이끌어낼 수 있을 것”이라고 화답했다.

2025년 착공 예정인 충남형 스마트팜 복합단지는 약 130억 원의 예산을 투입해 스마트팜 기반의 청년 농업인 자립을 지원하는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 전체 면적 5만 평 규모의 단지에는 생산, 유통, 교육, 연구개발(R&D) 등 전 과정에 걸친 스마트팜 복합 인프라가 들어설 예정으로, 특히 4만 평 규모의 청년 자립 분양형 농지가 포함된다.

시는 현재 타당성 조사를 진행 중이며, 4월 예산 확보와 부지 매입을 완료한 뒤 5월 실시설계와 기반 공사를 시작한다. 10월에는 약 35농가를 선정하고, 2026년부터 스마트팜 시설 본격 착공에 돌입할 계획이다.

스마트팜 복합단지는 청년 농업인의 성장을 도울 뿐만 아니라, 대규모 수출단지를 조성해 논산 농업의 국제 경쟁력을 강화할 것으로 기대된다. 

백성현 논산시장은 “논산은 농업 의존도가 높은 지역으로, 농업 발전을 위해 수익성 높은 모델을 적극적으로 도입하고 있다”며 “프리바와의 협력을 통해 스마트 농업의 새 지평을 열겠다”고 강조했다.

한편, 논산시는 프리바와의 협력을 바탕으로 선진 기술을 적극 수용하는 동시에 자체 기술 개발에도 지원을 아끼지 않을 방침이다. 스마트팜 복합단지는 지역 농업 혁신뿐만 아니라 세계적 농업 기술의 교류 허브로 자리 잡으며, 지속 가능한 농업의 미래를 제시할 것으로 기대된다.
