대전 동구가 겨울철 한파가 지속됨에 따라 에너지 취약계층의 따뜻한 겨울나기를 지원하기 위해 1억 1천 2백만 원 규모의 난방비를 지원한다고 15일 밝혔다.

동구는 지난해 11월에 진행한 1차 난방비 지원에 이어, 이번 2차 지원에서는 대상 가구를 1122가구로 확대하여 취약계층 돌봄을 강화할 방침이다. 

이번 난방비 지원은 기존에 추진하고 있는 취약계층 에너지 바우처사업과는 별도로 진행되며, 에너지 취약계층 가구당 10만 원씩 지급될 예정이다.

난방비 지원 재원은 동구의 대표 복지브랜드인 ‘천사의 손길’에서 지난해 8월부터 12월까지 5개월간 진행한 집중모금 캠페인을 통해 마련됐다. 

이에 따라 구는 지난 13일 어려운 경제 상황 속에서도 모금에 참여한 천사의 손길 후원자 20여 명을 초청해 감사 행사를 개최했다. 

이 자리에서 후원자들은 ‘나눔으로 미래를 잇다’라는 메시지를 공유하며 나눔의 가치를 되새기는 의미 있는 시간을 가졌다.

박희조 동구청장은 “많은 후원자분들의 도움으로 시기적절한 난방비 지원이 이뤄져, 취약계층 구민들이 그 어느 때보다 따뜻한 겨울을 보낼 수 있게 됐다”며 “앞으로도 소외되는 구민이 없도록 모든 자원과 역량을 총동원해 촘촘한 복지망을 구축해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다. 

이번 난방비 지원은 동구의 지속적인 복지 정책의 일환으로, 지역 사회의 따뜻한 연대와 나눔의 정신을 더욱 확산시키는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.
