대전시가 우주·항공·국방산업의 미국시장 진출을 위한 본격적인 행보에 나선다. 

이와 관련 장호종 경제과학부시장은 5일부터 12일까지 6박 8일간 미국 라스베이거스와 애틀랜타를 방문하여 CES 2025 대전통합관 개관식에 참석하고, 글로벌 네트워크 확장을 추진할 예정이다.

이번 방문은 급변하는 세계 정치 안보 환경 속에서 핵심 전략사업 분야의 미국 진출을 가속하기 위한 목적으로 마련됐다. 대전시는 이미 시애틀에 해외통상사무소를 설치하여 대전기업들의 미국 시장 진출 교두보를 마련한 바 있다.

장 부시장은 라스베이거스에서 개최되는 CES 2025 대전통합관 개관식에 참석하며, 지난해에 이어 두 번째로 대전 단독관을 조성하여 혁신 기술을 가진 33개 창업·성장기업을 지원한다. 

그는 유레카파크 및 글로벌 파빌리온에 위치한 지역 기업의 전시부스를 둘러보고, 신기술을 살펴본 후 지역 유관기관 및 투자사와 간담회를 통해 해외 진출 방안을 모색할 계획이다.

이후 애틀랜타로 이동하여 록히드마틴과 델타항공 등 세계적 우주·항공기업을 방문해 협력 방안을 논의한다. 

특히 록히드마틴과의 만남은 주목할 만하며, 이 기업은 F-35 전투기 등 첨단 항공우주 기술로 유명하다. 대전시는 록히드마틴과 지역 방산 기업 간의 글로벌 성장 생태계 구축을 위한 발판을 마련할 예정이다.

또한, 장 부시장은 글로벌 MRO(Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul) 시장 개척에도 나선다. MRO 시장은 2030년까지 180조 원 이상으로 성장할 것으로 전망되며, 델타항공 및 델타테크웍스를 방문해 항공기 유지·보수 산업과의 연계 강화 방안을 모색할 계획이다.

애틀랜타 방문 둘째 날에는 조지아공대를 찾아 교육 및 기술 협력 의제를 살펴볼 예정이다. 조지아공대는 우주·항공·국방 산업의 집적지로 불리는 기술 혁신 명문 연구기관이다.
