충남 아산에 국내 최고 수준의 이스포츠 상설 경기장이 건립된다. 

충남도에 따르면 13일 아산시 배방읍에서 김태흠 충남지사, 홍성현 도의회 의장, 도민 등 400여 명이 참석한 가운데 기공식을 개최 했다고 밝혔다. 

이 경기장은 2026년 3월까지 295억 원을 투입해 건립될 예정이다.

충남 이스포츠 상설 경기장은 KTX 천안아산역 인근 5,400㎡의 부지에 연면적 3,849㎡ 규모로, 지하 1층과 지상 3층으로 구성된다. 

주경기장은 429석, 보조경기장은 74석 규모로 설계되며, 국내 5번째 이스포츠 경기장이지만 신축은 이번이 처음이다. 

최신 시설을 갖춘 이 경기장은 이스포츠뿐만 아니라 문화·예술 공연과 전시회도 개최할 수 있는 공간으로 조성된다.

경기장 내부에는 주경기장과 보조경기장 외에도 러닝 스튜디오, 선수 대기실, 중계실 등이 설치될 예정이다. 준공 이후에는 자체 이스포츠 대회를 개최하고, 국제 이스포츠 대회를 유치하여 경기장을 활성화할 계획이다. 

또한, 이스포츠 아카데미를 운영하고 문화·예술 공연 및 전시 행사를 유치하여 도민들에게 문화 향유 기회를 제공하고 수익성을 높일 예정이다.

기공식에서는 김태흠 지사와 김영만 한국이스포츠협회장, 김곡미 충남정보문화산업진흥원장이 맺은 업무협약도 체결됐다. 

이 협약은 충남 이스포츠 활성화를 위해 상호 협력하고 국가 경쟁력 강화를 위한 내용을 담고 있다. 

협약에 따라 세 기관은 충남 청소년 중심 대회 운영, 이스포츠 클럽 문화 활성화, 이스포츠 대학 리그 운영 지원, 게임단 및 실업팀 창단 지원, 이스포츠 상설 경기장 운영 및 시설 지원 협력 등을 추진하기로 했다.

김태흠 지사는 “아산은 국내외 유수 기업들이 앞다퉈 들어오는 최고 수출 도시이며, 30대 이하 청년 인구가 45.3%에 달하는 젊은 도시”라며 “게임은 젊은 세대의 대표 문화로, 충남 이스포츠 상설 경기장을 거점으로 아산과 충남이 이스포츠의 메카로 거듭나게 될 것”이라고 강조했다.
