대전시는 지역 대학 4개교와 함께 11일(현지시간 기준) 인도네시아 자카르타에서 현지 대학생, 고등학생, 유학원생을 대상으로 유학생 유치설명회 및 유학상담회를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 설명회는 대전시와 관내 대학의 동반 성장을 견인할 외국인 글로벌 인재를 유치하기 위한 ‘외국인 유학생 유치활동 지원사업’의 일환으로 마련되었다. 

자카르타 스파크 라이프 호텔(Sparks Life JAKARTA) 콘퍼런스 홀에서 열린 이번 행사에는 대전시와 4개 대학(목원대, 배재대, 우송대, 충남대)이 참가하여 현지 학생 약 250명을 대상으로 대전시와 관내 대학을 홍보하고, 대학별 상담 부스를 운영하여 1대 1 유학 상담을 진행했다.

유치설명회에 참여한 자카르타 학생들은 각 대학 상담 부스를 방문하여 입학 조건과 장학제도 등을 문의했으며, 대전시 홍보 공간을 방문해 대한민국의 과학수도이자 일류 경제도시인 대전에 대한 많은 관심을 보였다.

대전시는 유치설명회에 앞서 10일(현지시간 기준) 인도네시아 파믈랑대학교(Pamulang University)와 SMA BAKTI MULYA 400 국제 고등학교를 방문하여 현지 학생들을 대상으로 한류 문화와 대전시를 홍보하는 특별 강의를 진행했다. 

또한, 관계자와의 간담회를 통해 인도네시아 유학생 유치와 교류를 위한 교두보를 마련하였다.

한편, 대전시는 인구 절벽으로 인한 학령 인구 감소에 따른 지방대학의 위기 극복을 위해 올해 4월에도 베트남(호치민, 빈증성)에서 유학생 유치설명회를 개최하여 관내 7개 대학 맞춤형 유치 활동을 지원하는 등 해외 우수 인재 유치를 위해 지속적으로 노력하고 있다.

내년부터는 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(RISE) 시행에 따라 ‘외국인 교육·정주도시 구축’이라는 단위 과제를 통해 지역 대학의 유학생 유치를 지원하고, 유학생의 적응을 돕고 취업을 지원할 수 있는 계획을 마련할 예정이다.

김낙철 대전시 교육정책전략국장은 “지역과 대학의 동반 성장을 이끌어 가기 위한 외국인 유학생 글로벌 인재 유치 필요성이 강조되고 있다”며, “내년부터 시행되는 RISE의 성공적 추진과 외국인 교육 정주 도시 여건 구축을 위해 지역 대학과 지속 협력해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다. 

이번 유학생 유치활동은 대전시의 국제화와 지역 대학의 경쟁력 강화를 위한 중요한 발판이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Daejeon City, All-out Effort to Attract Foreign Students from Indonesia

Daejeon City announced that it held an international student attraction briefing session and study abroad consultation session for local college students, high school students, and study abroad students in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 11th (local time) together with four local universities.

This briefing session was organized as part of the ‘International Student Attraction Support Project’ to attract foreign global talents who will drive the joint growth of Daejeon City and its universities.

Daejeon City and four universities (Mokwon University, Paichai University, Woosong University, Chungnam National University) participated in this event held at the Sparks Life Hotel Jakarta Conference Hall, promoting Daejeon City and its universities to about 250 local students, and operated consultation booths for each university to provide one-on-one study abroad consultations.

Jakarta students who participated in the orientation session visited each university’s counseling booth to inquire about admission requirements and scholarships, and visited the Daejeon City promotional space to show great interest in Daejeon, the science capital of Korea and a first-class economic city.

On the 10th (local time), prior to the orientation session, Daejeon City visited Pamulang University and SMA BAKTI MULYA 400 International High School in Indonesia to hold a special lecture to promote Korean culture and Daejeon City to local students.

In addition, through a meeting with relevant officials, a bridgehead for attracting and exchanging Indonesian students was established.

Meanwhile, Daejeon City held an orientation session for international students in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province) in April of this year to overcome the crisis of local universities due to the decrease in the school-age population caused by the population cliff, and is continuously making efforts to attract excellent overseas talent by supporting customized orientation activities for 7 universities in the city.

Starting next year, in accordance with the implementation of the Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE), we plan to support the recruitment of international students at local universities through a unit task called ‘Establishment of Foreign Education and Settlement Cities’ and to prepare a plan to help international students adapt and find employment.
