세종시가 지난 10일 국회 본회의를 통과한 내년 정부예산 673조 원 중 세종시 관련 예산이 1조 5801억 원으로 집계되었다고 11일 밝혔다. 

이는 국비 확보를 위해 세종시가 혼신의 힘을 기울인 결과로, 지역 현안 사업 추진의 동력을 확보하게 되었다.

그러나 세종시는 2026 세종국제정원도시박람회 개최를 위한 77억 원과 종합체육시설 건립을 위한 99억 원이 전액 감액된 점에 대해 아쉬움을 표했다. 

특히, 세종지방법원 설치 등 국회 상임위에서 증액 의결된 6개 사업이 최종 반영되지 않은 점은 매우 유감스럽다는 입장이다.

세종시는 민생과 시민 안전 및 편의 증진을 위한 주요 사업을 흔들림 없이 추진할 방침이다. 세종시 관련 현안 사업 중 국회에서 통과된 주요 사업으로는 세종의사당 건립 350억 원, 대통령 제2집무실 건립 45억 원, 국립민속박물관 이전 건립 102억 원 등이 있다. 

이외에도 세종공동캠퍼스 공익법인 운영지원 13억 원, 세종~안성 고속도로 242억 원, 세종~청주 고속도로 1199억 원 등의 계속사업이 정부 원안대로 반영되었다.

신규 사업으로는 노후상수도 정비사업 19억 원, 전의 공공하수처리시설 증설 5억 원, 노송지구 재해위험지구 개선사업 5억 원이 포함되었으며, 유네스코 국제해석설명센터 건립 18억 원, 세종~천안 BRT 구축사업 1억 원, 지역거점 정보보호클러스터 구축 사업 23억 원도 내년도 신규사업으로 반영되었다.

종합체육시설 건립 예산이 삭감된 이유는 올해 네 차례 유찰 끝에 2027년 충청권 하계세계대학경기대회 개최 전 완공이 현실적으로 불가능해졌기 때문이다. 

세종시는 행복도시 기본계획에 포함된 이 사업이 지역 발전에 필수적이라고 강조하며, 새로운 대안을 마련해 체육시설 건립을 지속 추진할 계획이다.

또한, 2026 세종국제정원도시박람회 개최 예산이 전액 삭감된 것은 지역 경제 활성화를 기대했던 소상공인들에게 큰 실망을 안겼다. 

세종시는 박람회 개최가 사실상 무산되었지만, 정원도시 조성과 정원관광 거점도시 세종 건설을 위한 다양한 정책 방안을 강구하겠다고 밝혔다.

향후 세종시는 확보된 정부예산을 적기에 효율적으로 집행하여 각 사업이 소기의 성과를 달성할 수 있도록 최선을 다할 예정이다. 

또한, 국회 심의 과정에서 필요성을 인정받았으나 반영되지 않은 한글문화글로벌센터 조성(3억 원)과 세종지방법원 설치 예산(85억 원) 등 사업에 대해서도 추가경정예산 편성 시 반영될 수 있도록 치밀하게 준비할 계획이다.
