대전시의 최대 숙원사업인 도시철도 2호선 트램 건설이 28년 만에 첫 삽을 떴다. 

대전시는 11일 이장우 대전시장을 비롯해 조원휘 대전시의회 의장, 강희업 대도시권광역교통위원장, 교육감, 구청장, 시·구의원 등 주요 내빈과 시민 1,000여 명이 참석한 가운데 유등교 상류 둔치에서 대전 트램 건설공사 착공식을 개최했다. 

대전 도시철도 2호선은 총연장 38.8km로, 대전 5개 자치구를 순환하는 순환선과 45개 정거장, 1개의 차량기지로 구성된다. 총사업비는 1조 5069억 원이 투입될 예정이다. 

대전시는 토목건축 공사는 지역 건설업체의 참여를 확대하기 위해 15개 공구로 나누어 추진되며, 올해 발주된 6개 공구 중 3개 공구의 건설사가 최종 결정된 상태다.

나머지 공구에 대한 발주와 업체 선정은 내년 상반기까지 마무리될 예정이다. 공사는 약 3년 6개월 간 진행되며, 이후 6개월의 시운전 과정을 거쳐 2028년 말 개통을 목표로 하고 있다.

특히 이날 착공식에서는 지난 7월 현대로템과 계약을 체결한 수소트램의 디자인 초안이 최초로 공개되었으며, 시민 선호도 조사도 진행되어 많은 관심을 끌었다. 수소트램의 최종 디자인은 전문가 자문과 2차 시민 선호도 조사, 공공디자인 심의를 거쳐 내년 2월에 확정될 예정이다.

또한, 유등교의 디자인도 공개되었다. 

유등교는 대전 3대 하천을 상징하는 3경간 3연속 아치교로 건설되며, 주경간 길이는 96m로 설정된다.

이는 유등천의 총연장인 96리(37.49km)를 상징하는 것으로, 버드나무의 부드럽고 온화한 이미지를 담고 있다. 교량 내에는 하천으로의 접근성을 높이기 위해 엘리베이터와 계단이 설치될 예정이다. 

교량 경간장은 기존 24m에서 96m로 늘어나며, 교각의 개수도 6개에서 2개로 줄어들어 폭우 시 하천 통수단면 확보에도 유리할 것으로 분석된다.
