임채성 세종시의회 의장은 10일 "2027 하계 U대회를 발판 삼아 대한민국 행정수도 세종의 위상을 세계 대학생들에게 널리 알리겠다”고 말했다.

임 의장은 이날 2027 충청권 하계세계대학경기대회 조직위원회에서 열린 충청권 4개 시ㆍ도 의회의장 간담회에 참석해 " “세종시는대회를 위해 실내체육관과 수영장 건립을 준비했으나 무산됐다"며 "탁구 경기와 폐회식 만큼은 차질 없이 준비해 대회가 성공적으로 치러질 수 있도록 하겠다"며 " 이같이 밝혔다.

임 의장은 “그동안 충청권 4개 시도는 국가균형발전 등 주요 현안에 한뜻으로 협력해 왔고, 지방분권의 새로운 시대를 여는 중요한 시작이 될 충청광역연합의회와 충청광역연합도 출범을 앞두고 있다”며 “국내 최초로 광역 지방자치단체가 공동으로 국제대회를 유치한 만큼, 충청권이 하나 돼 성공 개최를 이룰 것으로 믿는다”고 강조했다.

그러면서 세종시는 이번 대회를 발판 삼아 충청권이 메가시티로 발전할 추진력을 얻도록 하겠다”고 했다.
