조일교 아산시장 권한대행이 21일 아산 인주역에서 열린 ‘베이밸리 1호 사업 조기완성 기념행사’에 참석해 아산만권 일대를 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 대한민국 산업·경제의 핵심지로 조성하겠다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 충청남도가 주최·주관하며, 민선 8기 충청남도지사의 핵심 공약인 ‘베이밸리 메가시티’ 1호 사업인 ‘아산만권 순환철도 조기 완성’을 기념하기 위해 마련됐다. 

조일교 권한대행은 행사에서 “베이밸리 메가시티의 성공적인 추진으로 아산시는 대한민국 산업과 경제의 중심으로 거듭날 것”이라며, “시민과 함께 밝은 미래를 열어가겠다”는 포부를 밝혔다.

‘베이밸리 메가시티’는 아산, 천안, 서산, 당진 등 충남 북부권과 경기 남부권을 포함하는 아산만권을 반도체, 디스플레이, 수소경제 등 첨단산업을 선도할 세계적인 대도시권으로 육성하겠다는 충남도의 핵심 정책 과제다.

이달 2일 정식 개통한 ‘아산만권 순환철도’는 베이밸리 메가시티의 20대 핵심사업 중 첫 번째로 실현된 프로젝트로, 서해선(홍성~서화성), 장항선(신창~홍성), 포승평택선(안중~평택) 3개 노선이 동시 개통됐다. 

이를 통해 아산시 서북부 지역은 충청권과 수도권을 잇는 서해안 철도 시대의 중심지로 도약하게 된다.

아산시는 베이밸리 메가시티의 10대 프로젝트 및 20개 핵심사업 중 충남 경제자유구역 개발(인주·둔포 지구) ,다기능복합항 아산항 개발 ,K-SPACE 조성 ,반도체·미래 모빌리티 산업 육성 등 주요 사업을 충남도와 협력해 추진할 계획이다.
