제69회 현충일을 맞아 충남도가 6일 충남보훈공원 충혼탑 광장에서 추념식을 열고 국가를 위해 희생한 순국선열과 호국영령의 숭고한 정신을 기렸다.

추념식에는 김태흠 지사, 조길연 도의장, 김지철 도교육감, 김관수 32사단장, 도의원, 보훈기관·단체, 보훈가족 등 500여 명이 참석했다.

이날 추념식에선 추모의 의미로 묵념과 함께 10시 정각에 1분간 사이렌을 취명하고 조총 21발을 발사했다.

이 자리에서 김 지사는 “오늘날 자유 대한민국은 애국지사들의 독립투쟁과 호국용사들의 위국헌신 위에 서 있다”라면서 “도는 선열들의 숭고한 희생을 기억하고 나라사랑 정신과 호국의 역사를 이어 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

김 지사는 또 “보훈공원은 도민이 자연스럽게 호국보훈의 의미를 되새기는 충남의 상징공간으로 조성하고 2027년까지 의병기념관을 건립해 일상에 보훈문화가 뿌리내리도록 만들 것”이라며 “선열들께서 물려주신 위대한 나라를 발전시키는 일에 ‘힘쎈충남’이 끝까지 헌신할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
