4월 총선 전략공천설로 위기에 처하고 있는 국민의힘 대전 중구 선거구에 이은권 예비후보가 적임자라며 대전 중구 지방의원들이 이은권 지키기에 나섰다.

27일 오후 국민의힘 대전 중구 대전시의원과 구의원들은 대전시의회 기자실을 찾아 국회의원 선거의 공정한 시스템 공천을 촉구하고 “이은권만이 필승 카드”라고 주장하며 이은권 예비후보가 적임자임을 강조했다.

이들은 "이은권 예비후보는 1984년 국회의원 보좌관으로 정계 입문 후 단 한 번도 중구를 떠난 적이 없다"며 "40여 년을 중구민과 동고동락하며 민선4기 중구청장과 20대 국회의원을 지냈다"고 설명하며 진정한 대전 중구맨임을 강조했다.

이어 "이은권 예비후보는 그동안 중구민들의 숙원사업이었던 옛 충남도청사 이전부지 활용문제를 해결하고 혁신도시특별법을 대표발의하는 등 굵직한 지역 현안 사업들을 해결해 왔다"고 주장했다.

그러면서 "지금의 국회는 민주당의 폭거로 의회주의 정신마저 무너졌다"며 "민주당 독주를 멈추기 위해선 압도적인 총선 승리가 절실하다"고 호소했다.

또한 "대전 선거는 총선 승리의 바로미터"라며 "대전에서 패배한 당이 총선에서 승리한 적은 없다"고 강조했다.

이들 시구의원들은 결과에 상관 없이 이은권 예비후보와 함게 할 것인지에 대한 질문에 "함께 할 것이다"라고 단합된 모습을 보였다.

한편, 국민의힘 대전 중구 지역구는 기존 이은권 시당위원장과 강영환 국가균형발전위원회 특별위원장이 신청을 했고 국민의힘 인재로 영입된 채원기 변호사와 최명길 전 국회의원이 중앙당의 추가공모에 신청을 한 상황으로 28일 면접 일정이 잡혀있어 29일 이후 어떤 형태로든 방향이 설정될 것으로 예상된다.

대전지역 7개 선거구 중 대부분의 선거구가 파열음 없이 순조롭게 진행되는 상황에서 중구 선거구의 공천 향배에 따라 대전 전체 선거에 어떠한 영향을 미칠지 귀추가 주목되고 있다.
