국민의힘 대전 중구 시의원, 구의원, 그리고 당원협의회 회원들이 중앙당 공천관리위원회의 대전 중구 지역에 대한 공천 발표가 늦어지면서 온갖 소문이 난무하고 있는 가운데 직전 당협위원장 이은권 대전시당 위원장 지키기에 나섰다.

대전 중구 시의원과 구의원, 당원들은 20일 오전 대전시의회 1층 로비에서 기자회견을 열고 “한 마음 한 뜻으로 단결하여 대전 중구를, 그리고 이은권 전)의원을 기필코 지켜내겠다”고 목청을 높였다.

앞서 국민의힘 공천관리위원회는 지난 17일, 18일, 그리고 19일 공천심사발표 과정에서 대전 중구를 보류지역으로 분류했었다. 

이를 두고 기자회견에 나선 의원들과 당원들은 “공천관리위원회의 세부 자료에 의하면 우선추천 세부 기준으로 제시한 6개 기준에 중구가 해당하지 않는다”고 지적하고 “그럼에도 보류지역으로 분류된 것이라며, 공천관리위원회가 제적 2/3이상 의결로 결정을 하였다면 합리적이고 객관적인 지표를 제시하여야 할 것”이라며 중구 지역이 보류지역으로 분류된 이유를 제시해야 한다고 근거를 요구했다. 

이들은 또 중앙당을 향해 “앞에서는 시스템 공천이라고 하면서 밀실에서 공심위원들이 일방적 결정에 이유조차 설명하지 않는다면 그 누가 납득을 하겠는가? 공감 없는 일방적 공천은 선거 필패의 지름길임을 우리는 잘 알고 있다”고 말해 공심위의 의사결정에 문제가 있다는 의견을 제기했다.

이어 대전중구는 공심위에서 제시한 단수공천 기준안에 충분히 부합할 가능성이 있는 지역구라면서. 단수공천 기준 중 하나로 '여론조사에서 1위 후보 지지율이 2위 후보의 2배 이상이고 도덕성 평가가 10점 이상인 경우'를 제시했다. 

단수공천 지역이라고 강조한 시구의원과 당원들은 이에 대한 근거로 (주)여론조사꽃이 지난 7~8일 중구 거주 만 18세 이상 남녀 505명을 대상으로 한 여론조사에 따르면 국민의힘 차기 총선 후보 적합도에서 이은권 예비후보는 31.2%, 강영환 예비후보는 12.1%를 기록하며 두 배가 넘는 극심한 격차를 보인 지역이라는 근거를 제시했다.

이들은 또 “중구는 지난 대선에서 윤석열 당시 대통령 후보가 받은 대전 전체 득표율(49.55%)보다 높은 51.66%를 얻었고, 제8회 지방선거에서도 대전 전체득표율(51.19%)보다 높은 54.15%로 대전 전체 승리를 견인한 지역구이다”라면서 중구에서 그동안 국민의힘이 얻은 득표를 공개했다.

중앙당 공천관리위원회를 향해서도 “지역상황을 감안했을 때 도대체 무엇 때문에 대전 중구를 그렇게 했는지 도저히 납득을 할 수가 없다”면서“어떤 보이지 않는 손이 작용한 것인지 이것이 시스템공천, 이기는 공천인지 되묻고 싶다”고 목청을 높이면서 “특별한 이유도, 명분도 없이 보류를 결정한 공관위의 행보에 대전 중구 국민의힘 선출직 시·구의원과 핵심당원들은 강력한 유감을 표한다”고 밝혔다. 

기자회견에서 참석자들은 “이은권 전)의원은 40여년을 중구에서 삶과 정치를 배운 사람이고, 중구만을 생각하며, 자신에게는 오직 중구 뿐 이라는 사람이고, 그 외의 자신의 모든 것을 내려놓고 오직 중구만을 바라보며 지역 현안을 고민하고 중구의 발전, 구민의 행복만을 바라보며 지역 현장에서, 구민들 속에서 겸손함으로 낮은 자세로 오늘도 지금 이 시각에도 지역 구석구석을 누비고 있다”고 이은권 시당위원장 공천 당위성을 설명했다.

중구는 지금 기회와 위기의 시기에 있어 지역을 위해 일 할 수 있는 사람이 필요하고, 지역에서 24만 구민들과 함께 봉사할 수 있는 사람이 필요하다고 말한 참석자들은 “이러한 이유로 오늘 이 자리에 모인 우리는 한마음 한뜻으로 끝까지 이은권 전)의원을 지킬 것이며, 대한민국의 발전과 대전의 도약, 중구의 미래를 위해 함께 나아갈 것”이라고 분명한 입장을 밝혔다.

이날 기자회견에서는 “공관위는 그동안 정권교체와 지역을 위해 중구를 위해 헌신해 온 당원들을 위해서라도 이번 결정에 대한 명확한 입장과 설명을 내놓길 촉구한다”는 입장을 전했다.

한편 국민의힘 공천관리위원회가 대전지역 서거구에 대한 단수공천과 경선지역을 발표하고 있는 가운데 대전 중구와 서구갑,서구을 지역이 보류지역으로 남기면서 공심위의 향후 발표에 관심이 집중되고 있다.
