행정안전부 주관 시도별, 시군별 2023년 지역안전지수 평가에서 대전시는 평균 3등급(2022년도 평균 3.7등급)으로 교통사고 2등급, 화재 4등급, 범죄 5등급, 생활안전 2등급, 자살 2등급, 감염병 3등급의 성적을 받았다고 밝혔다. 

2023년 지역안전지수 평가 결과 대전시의 자살분야 및 교통사고분야 등급이 크게 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 

우선, 자살 사망자는 약국 등 213개 협력 기관 운영을 통한 자살 고위험군 발굴, 전담공무원 증원(5→7명), 주민 건강행동 실천율 증가 등 자살 예방 활동을 적극 추진한 결과, 2022년 대비 54명(425→371명) 감소하여 5등급에서 2등급으로 크게 향상됐다.

기초지자체 중에는 개선 정도 우수지역(6개 분야 중 3개 분야 이상에서 등급상승)으로 동구가 선정됐으며, 안전지수 양호지역(6개 분야에서 하위등급(4, 5등급)이 없는 지역)으로 서구와 유성구가 선정됐다. 

다만 범죄분야 지수는 4등급에서 5등급으로 하락했는데, 이는 인구 대비 자율방범대원과 아동지킴이 수가 줄어든 원인으로 앞으로 경찰청과 긴밀한 협의를 통해 지수 향상을 위한 노력을 지속할 계획이다.

임묵 대전시 시민안전실장은 “대전이 전국에서 가장 안전한 도시로 자리매김할 수 있도록 안전지수가 낮은 취약 분야(화재, 범죄)를 집중분석·개선하여 일류 안전도시 대전을 만들어 나가겠다”라고 말했다.
