대전평생교육진흥원이 학력인정 대전시립중·고등학교 제4회 졸업식을 17일 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

지난 2020년 3월 개교한 대전시립중·고등학교는 중·고등 과정이 각각 주·야간 2년제로 운영되고 있다. 이번 고등학교 졸업생 142명 중 절반 이상이 중학교 제1회 입학생이다.

재학생 평균 연령이 60대인 이 학교의 졸업식 풍경은 독특하다. 졸업식은 2번 진행되는데 오전 10시에는 주간, 12시에는 야간 과정 학생들이 참여했다. 또, 부모님 연세의 졸업생들이 자녀와 손자·손녀의 축하를 받는 장면을 볼 수 있다. 

학생들은 배움이라는 평생의 한을 풀고 꿈을 이룬 감격으로 행복한 표정이다. 졸업생 허○(77세) 씨는 “학력 이야기만 나오면 움츠러들었는데 이제는 당당하게 밝힐 수 있어 기쁘고, 꿈을 이루도록 도와주신 선생님들께 감사하다”고 말했다.  

학교가 시민들의 학력 취득을 목표로 운영되는 만큼 만학도들의 진학 성과도 눈에 띈다. 올해 중학교에서는 졸업생 66명이 전원 고등학교에 진급했고, 고등학교에서는 졸업생 중 122명이 대학에 등록해 대학 진학률이 86%에 달한다.  

서○○(66세) 씨는 충남대 소비자학과와 배재대 토털라이프스타일링과에 동시 합격했고, 이○○(67세) 씨는 한남대와 목원대 영어영문학과에 수석 합격했다. 대전대와 한밭대에서 성적 우수 장학금을 받는 학생들도 있다.

졸업식에서 김병한 교장은 “용기를 가지고 도전하여 결실을 맺은 학생들의 졸업을 축하하며, 언제 어느 자리에 있든 자랑스러운 본교의 동문임을 잊지 말아달라”고 당부했다. 

한편, 대전시립중·고등학교는 성인 학습자와 청소년의 학력이 인정되는 평생교육 시설로 대전광역시, 대전광역시교육청, 대전평생교육진흥원이 협력하여 운영하며 매년 10월 신입생을 모집한다.

The Daejeon Lifelong Education Promotion Agency announced that it held the 4th graduation ceremony for Daejeon City middle and high schools on the 17th.

Daejeon City Middle and High School, which opened in March 2020, operates the middle and high school courses on a two-year day and night system, respectively. More than half of the 142 graduates of this high school are the first class of middle school students.

The graduation ceremony at this school, where the average age of students is in the 60s, is unique. As the school is operated with the goal of helping citizens acquire academic qualifications, the success of students who have graduated from school are also notable. This year, all 66 middle school graduates were promoted to high school, and 122 high school graduates enrolled in college, reaching a college entrance rate of 86%.

Mr. Seo ○○ (age 66) was simultaneously accepted into the Department of Consumer Affairs at Chungnam National University and the Department of Total Life Styling at Pai Chai University, and Mr. ○○ Lee (age 67) was accepted at the top of his class at the Department of English Language and Literature at Hannam University and Mokwon University. Some students receive scholarships for excellent grades from Daejeon University and Hanbat University.

At the graduation ceremony, Principal Kim Byeong-han said, “I congratulate the students who took on challenges with courage and achieved results, and asked them not to forget that they are proud alumni of our school, no matter where they are.”

Meanwhile, Daejeon City Middle and High School is a lifelong education facility where the academic abilities of adult learners and teenagers are recognized. It is operated in cooperation with Daejeon Metropolitan City, Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, and Daejeon Lifelong Education Promotion Agency, and recruits new students every October.
