서산 가야산에 자연휴양림이 본격 조성된다.

충남 서산시에 따르면 지난 2일 '서산 가야산 자연휴양림 조성계획' 을 충남도로부터 최종 승인받았다고 밝혔다.

이에따라 서산시는 운산면 신창리 산15-2번지 일원 111.5ha 부지에 조성 예정인 가야산 자연휴양림 조성사업 추진에 탄력을 받을 것으로 예상된다.

가야산 자연휴양림은 2021년 6월 공립자연휴양림으로 산림청으로부터 지정 승인을 받았으며 이번에 충남도로부터 조성계획 승인을 받았다.

가야산은 충남 서산시와 예산군 사이에 위치한 충남 서북부 최고봉 (678.2m)으로, 정상에서는 멀리 서해가 보이고, 노랑상사화와 백운란 자생지가 발견되는 등 생태적 가치가 우수할 뿐만 아니라 수자원과 산림자원이 풍부한 금북정맥의 한 축이다.
