세종시의 우호 도시 ‘벨파스트市의회’ 관계자 등 영국 대표단 10여 명이 20일 세종특별자치시의회(의장 이순열)를 방문했다.

이날 이순열 의장은 “영국 대표단의 세종시의회 방문을 진심으로 환영한다”는 인사를 건네며 대표단을 맞이했으며, 의회 접견실에서 두 도시 간 협력 방안 등에 대해 논의하는 등 환담하였다.

이 자리에서 이순열 의장은 “북아일랜드의 수도인 벨파스트시는 유럽에서 가장 젊은 도시 중 하나이며, 디지털, 금융, 사이버 테크놀로지 등을 중심으로 도심 발전을 이루고 있는 걸로 알고 있다”며 “세종시 또한 우리나라에서 가장 젊은 도시이자, 국가균형발전의 선도적 도시로 계속 성장하고 있기에 유사점이 많은 두 도시의 협력은 그 의미가 더욱 깊다”고 전했다.
