충남 당진시가 삽교호 야생생물 보호구역에서 새호리기(멸종위기야생생물2급), 검은머리물떼새(멸종위기 야생생물2급, 천연기념물)의 서식이 확인되었다고 밝혔다. 

그동안 문헌조사, 현지조사로 확인되지 않았던 새로운 법정보호종인 새호리기는 매과의 맹금류로 1981년 국내에서 처음 발견되어 2012년 멸종위기 야생생물 2급으로 지정되었으며 검은머리물떼새는 검은머리물떼새과의 물새로 텃새이자 겨울철새로 우리나라에 1917년 처음 번식 확인되었으며 1982년 천연기념물로 등록되었다.

당진시는 우강면에 위치한 소들섬 및 삽교호 일원 생태가치를 보전하기 위해 2022년 1월 28일 야생생물 보호구역으로 지정한 바 있으며 이번에 새롭게 확인된 법정보호종은 당진시가 발주한 ‘삽교호 야생생물 보호구역 생태조사 연구용역’을 통해 서식이 추가 확인됐다.

앞으로도 당진시는 2024년도에도 야생생물 보호구역 내 야생생물 서식지 보전을 위해 사계절 생태조사를 실시할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

Confirmation of Saehorigi and Black-fronted Plover habitats in Sapgyo Lake, Dangjin

Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province, announced that the habitat of Saehori (Endangered Wildlife Class 2) and Black-fronted Plover (Endangered Wildlife Class 2, Natural Monument) has been confirmed in the Sapgyoho Wildlife Sanctuary.

Saehorigi, a new legally protected species that had not been confirmed through literature or field surveys, is a bird of prey of the Mae family that was first discovered in Korea in 1981 and was designated as a Class 2 endangered wild species in 2012. This winter bird was first confirmed to be bred in Korea in 1917, and was registered as a natural monument in 1982.

Dangjin City designated Sodeul Island located in Ugang-myeon and the Sapgyo Lake area as a wildlife protection area on January 28, 2022, and the newly confirmed legally protected species are the 'Sapgyo Lake Wildlife Sanctuary' ordered by Dangjin City.
