대전지역 대표 연극단체 마당극패 우금치가 오는 9월 8일과 9일 저년 8시 대전 근현대전시관인 옛 충남도청사 야외 특설무대에서 2023 단재 신채호 민족 독립운동정신 계승공연 “하시하지”를 선보인다.

대전문화재단 후원을 받아 70분간 이어지는 이번 공연은 민족주의자인 단제 신채호 선생의 항일전쟁의 일대기를 그린 연극이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

하시하지(何時何地)는 언제 어디서나 조선의 독립을 위해 몸과 목숨을 바치었던 의열단의 정신으로 지금, 여기라는 것이 과거뿐만 아니라 현재와 미래까지 이어진다는 의미를 담고 있다.

이번 작품 하시하지 특징은 처절한 식민의 역사현장, 근대현사 전시관(옛 충남도청사)에서 독립운동을 외치다! 일제 시대에 지어진 역사적인 건물은 완전히 사라져야 한다는 논리와 그대로 보존하여 그 아픔을 기억해야 한다는 주장들이 맞선다. 

근현대 전시관으로 살아남은 구)충남도청사는 식민지의 처절한 정치적 현장을 목격한 생명체이다. 그 격동의 세월을 견뎌온 구)충남도청사에서 식민지의 흔적을 그대로 안은 채 단채신채호를 맞이한다.

이번 공연의 모티브는 흙이다. 

식민지 해방을 위해 언론인으로 계몽운동으로 무력투쟁으로 맞섰던 신채호가 끝까지 주장했던 민족해방은 우리의 땅을 되찾고 어머니의 품과 같은 흙을 지켜내는 것이었다.

“하시하지”는 마당판을 황토 흙으로 뒤 덮는다. 

장장 70분간 펼치는 무대는 백색의 순박한 민중들이 식민지의 고달픈 삶이 서서히 황토 흙으로 물들어 급기야 핏빛으로 물들어 간다.

땀과 흙으로 범벅이 된 민중들... 

그들의 모습이 곧 항일운동으로 목숨을 바쳤던 수많은 이름 없는 독립 투사이자 신채호다. 

연극은 신채호를 그렸다.

연극 하시하지는 1마당 눈을 잃은 백성(民), 2마당 - 제국의 침략, 3마당 - 단재가 쓴 ‘이순신 장군’ 이야기, 4마당 - 나라가 망했다, 5마당 - 3.1 민중혁명과 임시정부수립, 6마당 - 조선혁명선언 / 의열단, 7마당 - 조선상고사 / 아나키즘으로 이루어진다.
