백성현 논산시장이 함께 잘사는 충남을 위해 기회발전특구 지정 공조를 요청했다.

백 시장은 지난 31일 서천군청에서 열린 제4회 충청남도 지방정부회의에 참석해 충남 남부권이 원팀으로서 ‘기회발전특구’ 지정에 합심해 국가균형발전에 이바지해야 한다고 강조하면서 이같이 말했다.

이날 회의에서 백 시장은 “남부권은 지속적인 인구 감소, 유출, 고령화를 겪으며 지역의 활력이 전반적으로 저조해진 현실”이라며 “산업기반과 재정 여건을 튼튼히 다지고 지역소멸을 막기 위해서는 남부권의 특성과 상황을 반영한 혁신안이 요구된다”고 말했다.

그러면서 “지방시대위원회 출범 이후 준비되고 있는 기회발전특구 관련 정책이 남부권 소생의 열쇠가 될 것으로 보인다”며 “함께 잘 사는 충남을 만들기 위한 기회발전특구 지정에 모두가 공조해야 한다”는 의견을 덧붙였다.

김태흠 도지사는 “특구와 관련된 세부적 점검사항을 짚어가며 충남의 균형발전을 위해 함께 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 논산시는 8월 1일부터 김태우 부시장을 단장으로 하는 ‘기회발전특구 추진단(TF)’을 편성, 특구 지정 움직임에 가속페달을 밟고 있다. 추진단은 기본계획 수립, 투자유인책 발굴, 대외 홍보, 기업 유치 활동 등의 선두에서 특구 지정에 관한 전략을 총괄할 예정이다. 

백 시장 역시 기회발전특구 지정을 역점 과제로 인식하고 중앙정부 및 軍ㆍ기업 관계자들과 긴밀히 소통 중인 것으로 알려졌다.
