충남 당진시가 14일 당진시청에서 충청남도 및 4개 기업과 ‘탄소포집형 수소생산기지 구축사업’ 추진 및 청정수소경제 생태계 조성에 관한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이란 협약을 체결한‘탄소포집형 수소생산기지 구축사업’은 산업통상자원부가 올해 신규로 공고한 사업으로, 기존의 천연가스 개질 기반의 수소 생산·공급체계를 이산화탄소 포집･활용까지 고려한 청정수소 생산 체계로 전환하여 수소 생산의 친환경성 확보와 탄소화합물 산업생태계를 구축하기 위한 사업이다.

당진시는 그동안 국토교통부 선정 수소도시 사업지역으로서 수소 배관 구축과 연료전지, 수소충전소 등을 통한 수소에너지 활용은 가능하나, 한정된 제철 부생수소 외의 수소 생산 선택지가 적다는 한계가 있었다. 

당진시는 ‘탄소포집형 수소생산기지 구축사업’추진을 위해 이번 달 말까지 본 공모사업 전담기관인 수소융합얼라이언스에 사업신청서를 제출하고, 다음 달에 있을 현장 실사 및 발표평가에도 충실히 응해 결과 발표 예정인 8월까지 긴장을 늦추지 않고 대응해 나갈 계획이다.

이밖에 당진시는 수소생산기지 공모사업 외에도 청정수소경제 생태계 구축 관련 신규사업 추진을 위해 충청남도 및 협약 체결 기업과 지속적으로 협력할 예정이다.

한편 수소도시로서의 위상을 강화하기 위한 수소생산기지 구축 협력을 다짐하는 이날 협약식에는 오성환 당진시장, 충청남도 남승홍 탄소중립경제과장, 한국가스기술공사 조용돈 사장, 로우카본 이철 대표이사, 국내 제1호 수소전문기업이자 국산 수소개질기를 생산하고 공급하는 원일티엔아이의 이정빈 대표이사, 수소생산기지 토목건축 시공 전문업체인 테크로스워터앤에너지 김상민 본부장이 참석했다.
