[Bethel House-Korea Tuberculosis Association, tuberculosis screening for the vulnerable]

The Bethel House (Ulan Community, Jjokbang Counseling Center, Hope Medical Center) and the Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam branches of the Korean Tuberculosis Association are aimed at the homeless and residents of Jjokbang near Daejeon Station, who are in the blind spot of medical services, for tuberculosis to restore the basic right to health. The examination was conducted on May 3 (Tuesday) from 10 am to 4 pm at Daejeon Station West Plaza.

Residents of streets or jjokbangs are easily exposed to infectious diseases such as tuberculosis due to poor living conditions and nutritional deficiencies. Tuberculosis screening has been conducted regularly.

The tuberculosis screening conducted on this day was of the base type, and it was taken in a mobile screening vehicle equipped with a chest X-ray screening device, and the results of the examination were confirmed by waiting for a while. A total of 312 people were screened for tuberculosis, and 42 people had sputum on the same day. Tuberculosis screening results will be notified to the examinee via text message. In addition, those with tuberculosis test results (including inactive ones) will receive additional tests, as well as tuberculosis treatment and follow-up management in connection with the local public health center when tuberculosis is confirmed. It is also planned to link medication management and housing support until tuberculosis is cured.

From the 4th, it plans to conduct a visit-type tuberculosis checkup for those who have difficulty in mobility or remote residents for 3-4 weeks starting from the 4th, targeting those who have not been screened for the base-type screening among residents registered with the jjokbang counseling center.

On this day, the mandatory outdoor mask wear was abolished, but personal quarantine was carried out naturally by wearing a mask and keeping a loose distance, and the atmosphere was heightened with a welcome greeting after a long time.

Korean Methodist Church Southern Conference Social Mission Center Bethel House consists of three institutions: Ulan Community (homeless self-support facility), Jjokbang Counseling Center (homelessness prevention and aftercare center), and Hope Medical Center (free clinic). We are looking for ways to create a world where the class can live like human beings, and we are continuing our activities to realize it.

Among them, the Hope Medical Center (co-representative: Pastor Won Yong-cheol, President Seo Baek-kyung, Daejeon/Chungnam Branch, Clinic Director: Song Gwan-wook, Director of Logo Internal Medicine), which is a free medical center, was operated only once during the Corona 19 period to restore the right to health of the low-income and poor class. Free treatment was conducted without interruption.

Regular treatment at Hope Medical Center is held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday, and as a community prevention project, the first half of the year, repellent supply and Tai Chi exercise program to improve cognitive and physical functions are planned.
