대전시가 18일 오전‘대전광역시 외국인주민 통합지원센터’를 조성하고 개소식을 가졌다.

 

외국인주민의 지역사회 조기정착과 안정적 생활지원을 위한 센터 개소식은 이날 오전 10시 정동 소재 하나은행 대전역전지점 2층 외국인주민 통합지원센터에서 허태정 대전시장과 권중순 대전시의회 의장, 유미 사회서비스원 대표이사, 외국인 시정참여회의 위원 등이 참석한 가운데 현판제막식 등 주요행사가 개최됐다.

 

대전시는 지역 내 가파르게 증가하고 있는 외국인주민의 복지서비스 수요에 적극 대응하기 위해 외국인주민 통합지원센터 설립을 민선7기 시민과의 약속사업으로 선정하고 추진해 왔다.

 

외국인주민 통합지원센터는 하나은행의 컬처뱅크 프로젝트와 연계, 하나은행 대전역전지점 유휴공간을 리모델링 후 무상 임차를 통해 조성되었으며, 2층은 사무실ㆍ강의실ㆍ무료진료소, 3층은 강의실ㆍ디지털존ㆍ상담실ㆍ쿠킹스테이지ㆍ다문화도서관, 옥상은 야외쉼터로 운영할 예정이다.

 

또한 외국인주민 기초생활 적응 교육, 법률ㆍ생활상담 등 외국인주민을 위한 각종 지원사업 외에도 다양한 분야의 민간 교류 및 자매ㆍ우호협력도시와의 교류증진 등 국제교류업무도 통합 수행할 예정이다.

 

허태정 대전시장은 “외국인주민은 언어장벽이나 문화차이로 인한 어려움, 생활인프라 부족 등으로 불편을 많이 겪을 수밖에 없다.”며 “외국인주민 통합지원센터의 운영 활성화를 통해 외국인주민의 생활불편을 해소하고, 지역 주민과 소통ㆍ교류를 통해 지역사회에 안정적으로 정착할 수 있는 환경을 지속적으로 만들어 나가겠다”고 말했다.

 

한편, 대전시 외국인주민 현황은 2019년 11월 1일 기준 34,148명으로 대전시 인구의 2.3%이며, 유학생 등 장기체류 외국인은 총 25,147명으로 출신국가별로는 중국ㆍ베트남이, 자치구별로는 유성구ㆍ동구, 연령별로는 20~24세가 가장 많다.
