Daejeon City invests KRW 4.8 billion to improve the environment of three major rivers

Daejeon City will invest a total of 4.8 billion won to improve the environment of the three major rivers.

Daejeon City announced on the 16th that a total of 4.8 billion won will be invested in the three major river environment maintenance projects, including 2.8 billion won for maintenance of old facilities, 900 million won for localized heavy rain damage restoration, and 1.1 billion won for surrounding maintenance projects such as Mokcheok Bridge.

By the end of this year, Daejeon City will invest 2.8 billion won from the government to repair old facilities such as trails, bicycle paths, street lights around river promenades, and benches and river information boards all at once.

It is planned to provide a pleasant walking environment for citizens by renovating convenience facilities that have been neglected due to lack of budget since it was created as a four-river project in 2010.

It also restores facilities damaged by heavy rains and typhoons in the past. Fortunately, Daejeon suffered relatively little damage, but some of the bridges in the river were damaged and the high water site was lost, and about 1,000 tons of water damage occurred.

The city carried out emergency restoration, such as promptly collecting waste washed into rivers and securing passageways for citizens, but restoration of some facilities was delayed.

Daejeon City plans to invest 900 million won to complete the repair of bridges and bicycle paths by the end of September.

At the same time, by investing KRW 1.1 billion to promote the 'Maintenance Project around Mokcheok Bridge and Taepyeong Bridge', we will prepare for the 'Region-tailored Integrated River Project' worth 400 billion KRW, which is scheduled to open at the end of this year.

In 2010, Hongmyeong Shopping Street and the central department store were demolished and convenience facilities were installed around the Mokcheok Bridge, but they are now very old. Concrete structures, etc. will be removed and convenience facilities such as spectator seats, walking trails, music fountains, and toilets will be extensively repaired to restore the ecological environment.
In addition, a bamboo forest and theme-type flower garden will be created around the retaining wall that has been neglected around the Taepyeong Bridge, and it will be used as a resting space for citizens.

Meanwhile, the city of Daejeon plans to announce the ‘Three Major Rivers Blue Water Road Grand Plan’, which contains the blueprint for the 8th popular river policy, including securing water for maintenance of Daejeon Stream, demolition of river roads, ecological restoration, and creation of river urban forests at the end of this year.
