[Chungcheongnam-do, real-time monitoring of 'inflow of radioactively contaminated water from Japan']

Signed an agreement with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute to establish a real-time monitoring system for marine radiation.
While the Japanese government has decided to discharge contaminated water containing radioactive materials from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean from 2023, South Chungcheong Province announced that it will establish and operate a seawater radiation monitoring system in partnership with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute.

Chungcheongnam-do is the first local government in the country to monitor the radiation of seawater.

On the 24th, Governor Yang Seung-jo signed a business agreement with Park Won-seok, director of the Atomic Energy Research Institute, to build a real-time monitoring system for marine radiation in the situation room of the provincial government.

According to the agreement, a real-time seawater radiation measurement device developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute was installed on the ‘Chungnam Ocean Lake’, a provincial fishing guidance ship, in October.

This meter is connected to the cooling water supply line in the engine room of the ship and operates by measuring the radioactivity of seawater used as cooling water every minute every time the Chungnam Maritime Reservoir operates.
South Chungcheong Province and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute have even completed a test operation for the stable operation of the radiation meter.

The Atomic Energy Research Institute operates this measuring instrument, and when radioactive contamination is suspected, necessary measures are taken immediately and the province is notified.

South Chungcheong Province and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute also plan to disclose the radiation measurement status and concentration through the provincial website to satisfy the public's right to know, and make it possible to check it with a smartphone.
