[Northwest Chungcheongnam-do 'water shortage' solved... 'Chronic thirst' resolved

Northwest Chungcheongnam-do, which is suffering from water shortages due to repeated droughts, is quenching 'chronic thirst'.

In Chungcheongnam-do, the metropolitan waterworks supplying water from Daecheong Dam came to an end after 11 years of implementation, and another regional waterworks project that turns a part of this waterway to the west and a seawater desalination project that converts seawater into fresh water and supplies it to the Daesan Seawater Industrial Area announced that he had finally landed his first shovel.

Chungcheongnam-do held a ceremony for the completion of the Daecheong Phase III regional water supply and the groundbreaking ceremony for the regional water supply and Daesan seawater desalination project in the western part of Chungnam at the Cheonan Water Plant on the 1st.

The event, which was held in the presence of Governor Yang Seung-jo, Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom, and Environment Minister Han Jeong-ae, was followed by a report on the completion and start of the K-water Geumgang Waterworks Project Group, and congratulatory speeches from the two governors.

The three projects completed and started this time are being pursued with a total investment of KRW 1.25 trillion, according to the forecast that there will be a shortage of 770,000 tons of water per day in 2025.

Daecheong Phase III metropolitan waterworks supplies 580,000 tons of water per day to Cheonan, Asan, Seosan, Dangjin, and Yesan.

This project was carried out for 11 years, starting with a preliminary feasibility study in 2010 due to a surge in water demand following various development plans in the northwestern region.

With a total project cost of 665.6 billion won, this metropolitan water supply system has 131.2 km of water pipes, 3 pressurized plants, 1 water intake, and 2 water purification plants.

The wide-area waterworks project in the western region is being promoted to meet the new demand in the western region, such as Naepo New Town.

When completed, 100,000 tons of live and industrial water per day will be supplied to five cities and counties, including Seosan, Dangjin, Hongseong, Yesan, and Taean.

Separately, the Daesan Rimhae seawater desalination project, which invests a total of KRW 279.8 billion and installs one seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per day, one intake facility with a capacity of 210,000 tonnes per day, and one set of 19.5 km-scale pipelines. It is promoted to solve the chronic shortage of industrial water in industrial areas.

It is the largest seawater desalination facility in Korea.
When the Daesan Seawater desalination project is completed, 100,000 tons of water per day will be supplied to Hyundai Oilbank, LG Chem, Hanwha Total, and Hyundai OCI.

When these three projects are completed and operated normally, Chungnam Province explains that 780,000 tons of water per day will be additionally supplied to the province.
