['Naepo Culture Forest Trail' to create a luxury forest road...]

The ‘Naepo Culture Forest Trail’, which was the first among the forest trails created and operated by local governments, will be developed into a world-class luxury forest trail that can be compared with Jeju Olle Trail and Santiago Trail in Spain.

Chungnam Province announced on the 27th that it held a ceremony to celebrate the designation of the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail National Forest Trail at the outdoor stage of the Yesan Visitor Center on the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail.

This event was prepared to celebrate the promotion of the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail to the National Forest Trail with 2.2 million residents, and to declare the will to make the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail a forest trail that people around the world seek out, both inside and outside.

About 100 people attended the ceremony, including Governor Yang Seung-jo, Commissioner of the Korea Forest Service Choi Byeong-am, Assemblyman Hong Moon-pyo, Hong Seong-hwan Governor Kim Seok-hwan, Yesan County Governor Hwang Seon-bong, and Naepo Cultural Forest Road Chairman Doshin.

At this meeting, Governor Yang evaluated, “The designation of the National Forest Path of Naepo Cultural Forest Path is an achievement of the Chungnam Provincial Government, which has been expanding and protecting the history, culture, and ecology and environment of the forest path from development pressure.”

“Starting with the ceremony to commemorate the designation of the national forest path, Chungnam will develop the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail into a world-class luxury forest trail such as the Jeju Olle Trail and the Santiago Pilgrimage Trail in Spain,” Yang said.

To this end, the two governors emphasized that they would further enhance the value by linking with the Haemi Martyrdom Sanctuary, and increase user accessibility through the Seosan Airport in Chungnam, the Seohae Line double-track train, and the Seobu Inland Expressway.

He also expressed his intention to promote research services and create specific operation plans to operate the forest road that contributes to the local economy, while operating a cooperative system with the Korea Forest Service, four cities and counties, and civic groups for systematic and efficient management.

The Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, spanning 320 km in 4 cities and counties, 26 eup, myeon and 121 villages, including Seosan, Dangjin, Hongseong, and Yesan, includes many famous mountains in the province, such as Gayasan, Deoksungsan, Suamsan, Bongsusan, Yongbongsan, Baekwolsan, and Oseosan. Nago forest has high ecological value.

Along the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, there are also historical sites such as Seosan Maae Trinity Buddha, Bowonsa Temple Site, Sudeoksa Temple, Gaesimsa Temple, Imjoongseong Fortress, Daeheunggwana, Myeoncheoneupseong Fortress, Chusa Kim Jeong-hee’s House, General Kim Jwa-jin’s Birthplace, Han Yong-un’s Birthplace, Hapdeokje, Solmoe Seongji, Sinri Seongji, Yeosaul Seongji, etc.・There are also abundant cultural relics.

The National Forest Path designation of the Naepo Cultural Forest Path was made after passing the deliberation by the Forest Welfare Committee of the Korea Forest Service last month.

The National Forest Trail is a system designated, announced and managed by the Minister of the Korea Forest Service after evaluating the ecology, historical and cultural value, scale, and quality of forest trails, and was introduced in June last year.

Currently, the National Forest Trail has increased to six with the addition of the Naepo Culture Forest Trail and the Uljin Geumgang Pine Forest Trail to four locations: the Jirisan Mountain Trail, the Baekdudaegan Trail, the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Punch Ball Trail, and the Daegwallyeong Forest Trail.

Five of the six national forest trails have been designated by national agencies, but the only one that has been designated as a national forest route is the forest trail created and operated by local governments across the country.
