[Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Assembly Calls for Measures to “Reduce Delivery Costs for Island Regions”]

The Chungnam Provincial Assembly adopted a “recommendation to urge revision of the Living Logistics Service Industry Development Act” at the 1st plenary session of the 331st extraordinary session held on the 1st to improve the inconvenience of using logistics services in islands and mountainous regions, which are weak in logistics.

In April of this year, the ‘Amendment to the Living Logistics Service Industry Development Act’ was proposed to close the logistics service gap between cities and islands, but the current legislation is not progressing rapidly. Accordingly, this proposal, initiated by Rep. Kim Han-tae (Boryeong 1, along with the Democratic Party of Korea), calls for the swift passage of the amendment in order to reduce the burden of delivery costs for residents of islands and mountainous areas.

There are 268 islands, including 33 inhabited islands and 235 uninhabited islands in Chungcheongnam-do.

Rep. Kim said, “Even if local residents want to buy daily necessities on land, it is not easy to purchase logistics because of inconvenient sea transportation. Because of the additional delivery cost that they have to bear, they are unable to use e-commerce comfortably.”

“In order to alleviate the difficulties of the residents in the islands and mountains, the National Assembly should promote the revision of the Living Logistics Service Industry Development Act as soon as possible, and the government should quickly come up with measures to improve the rates for using logistics services in areas with weak logistics.”
