[Electric Power Research Institute completes development of power SW platform]

The Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPCO) announced that it has successfully completed the development of a power software development platform, Hub-PoP, and switched to a system for spreading utilization.

HUB-PoP: Hyper-connected Ubiquitous Bridge Platform of Platform) is a cloud-based digital platform built by KEPCO to be used for power application development, service operation, and big data analysis.

As the 4th industrial revolution accelerates, the center of power technology and IT technology market is shifting from hardware technology to software technology.

In the future market, it is expected that SW platform operators will lead the market, and operators that provide apps that can create customer value will lead the market.
KEPCO has established a company-wide digital transformation policy to preemptively respond to such environmental changes, and is pursuing R&D of various platforms to leap forward as an energy platform provider.

The HUB-PoP platform is a digital platform built to promote digital transformation and develop efficient electric power software. After development in March 2021, the creation of value using electric power big data and new business through the grafting of new technologies such as AI to electric power technology It is being used for model discovery business development.

The HUB-PoP platform was developed with three core modules: a cloud platform, an AI analysis platform, and a SW development platform. Since 2019, the Korea Electric Power Research Institute’s Intelligent Digital Power Plant (IDPP), the next-generation distribution network management system (ADMS, It is being used in earnest for R&D and business system development such as Advanced Distribution Managementnet System)

In addition, it is playing an important infrastructure role in accelerating digital transformation of the electric power industry by spreading its use in various analysis projects using electric power big data and developing intelligent solutions applying AI technology.

Recyclability can be improved through platform internalization of software element technology, and it is expected to increase usability through systematic management of developed software and AI algorithms.

In addition, by utilizing the developed HUB-PoP platform technology, it is expanding its utility to a solution (HUb-PoP for Gen) that collects, manages, and analyzes big data from five power generation companies at high speed.

An official at the Korea Electric Power Research Institute said, “Through the use of the platform, it is expected that the R&D cost and infrastructure introduction cost required for enterprise-wide digital transformation can be reduced by more than 30%. It is expected to accelerate the spread of artificial intelligence (AI).”
