[Parliamentarian Park Young-soon, green signal for environmental improvement in the old downtown of “relocating the Shintanjin Incoming Railroad”]

Parliamentarian Park Young-soon (Daejeon Daedeok, the Democratic Party of Debuleo) expressed his positive welcome to the Daejeon City and National Railroad Corporation's signing of a consignment agreement on the 29th to smoothly promote the transfer project of the Daejeon Vehicle Technology Group.

The Sintanjin Incoming Railway Relocation Project is a project to remove the 1.6km railroad from Shintanjin Station to the Sangseo-dong Vehicle Technology Group, and install a new 1.8km track to enter the Vehicle Technology Group at Hoedeok Station, which is the opposite direction.

Daejeon City, along with the National Railroad Authority, received government funding of 28.4 billion won for the Daejeon Vehicle Technology Group's lead-in railroad relocation project and invested a total project cost of 56.8 billion won, and plans to complete the relocation project in 2024, starting in July 2021.

This project was difficult to implement as the total project cost increased. As a result of the detailed design service conducted by the National Railroad Authority from 2019, the total project cost increased significantly from 38 billion to 56.8 billion won, delaying the negotiations between the agencies on the share of the increase. This is because the geotechnical survey results, electrification projects, and inflation rate were reflected.

Accordingly, Rep. Park Young-soon, a member of the National Assembly's Land Transport Commissioner, stepped forward as a mediator to promptly promote the sluggish relocation project. Daejeon City and the National Railroad Corporation cooperated to share the total project cost increase of 18.8 billion won at 5:5, and because of the increase in project cost, they were included in the preliminary feasibility study and persuaded the central ministry to prevent the project from prolonging.

Rep. Park Young-soon said, “We are pleased to resolve the discomfort of residents by improving the environment in the old downtown by resolving traffic congestion caused by the crossing of the current incoming line of the Daejeon Railway Vehicle Technology Team and the plane intersection of National Route 17, and by connecting the disconnected downtown area. He said, “We will collect opinions from local residents and closely discuss with related organizations such as the National Railroad Corporation so that the existing abandoned line site can be reborn as a resident-friendly space such as Forest Tunnel Park.
