[Daejeon cogeneration power plant'equipment expansion' collective opposition from local residents]

As it became known that Daejeon Combined Heat and Power Plant Co., Ltd. is promoting the expansion of the combined cycle power plant (LNG), local residents of Daedeok-gu and Yuseong-gu, nearby, expressed concern about the occurrence of fine dust, and began to protest collectively.

Daejeon Cogeneration Power Plant recently submitted a project plan to change the group energy project to expand the existing 113MW class steam turbine power generation to a 495MW class large-scale gas combined cycle power plant to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy).

Local people's collective repulsion movement was attempted at the Pyeongchon Industrial Complex in Seo-gu, Daejeon in 2019, and when it became known that a large amount of fine dust was generated, the local people responded to the collective rebellion and eventually gave up the business. It is interpreted that they are rebelling against the concern.

In fact, the scale of power generation facility expansion promoted by Daejeon Cogeneration Power Plant is expanding from 113MW to 495MW, which is a large-scale facility expansion with power generation capacity more than four times higher than the current one.

It has been argued that the amount of fine dust emitted from 50,000 passenger cars is generated when the expansion to 495MW is increased, and the side of the opposition argues that the damage will be suffered by Daejeon citizens, including local residents.

As of the afternoon of the 2nd, there were more than 500 opinions on the'I wish to the mayor' corner of the open market room on the Daejeon City homepage, so it was possible to gauge the degree of opposition from the local people.

In addition, in the Sintanjin area of Daedeok-gu and near Daejeon City Hall, a banner urging against the expansion of the combined heat and power plant was posted, and residents were conveying their position intact.

Separately, about 100 residents of Daedeok-gu, where the Daejeon Combined Heat and Power Plant is located, are expected to form an anti-combat committee and engage in systematic opposition.

It is also known that neighboring residents such as Songgang-dong and Gujeok-dong in Yuseong-gu, which are adjacent to the power plant, also conveyed their opposition to the facility expansion of the power plant to the Yuseong-gu Office.

Political circles have made it clear that if the local people oppose it, it is impossible to do even the best facilities.

Daejeon City is in a difficult position due to the movement of residents' collective repulsion.

As the deadline for submitting opinions to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy is approaching on the 9th, the city of Daejeon is expected to gather opinions from the residents after the residents have revolted.

In fact, the officials of Daejeon City made it clear that the issue of expansion of Daejeon cogeneration facilities requires the final approval of the residents by saying that there is no legal problem, but the final approval can be obtained only after an environmental impact assessment and a procedure for collecting residents' opinions.

Meanwhile, the Daejeon Chungnam Green Alliance also announced a statement on the expansion of facilities at the combined heat and power plant on the 1st and made clear opposition.
