그럼에도 불구하고 새해의 기대감이 차오르는 건 우리 안에 시민 여러분이 있고, 여러분 안에 희망이 있기 때문입니다.
지난 한 해, 유례없는 코로나19의 대유행으로 평범했던 일상은 거리두기와 비대면 등의 사회적 변화에 이제껏 경험해 보지 못했던 상황을 맞이했고 그로인한 경제 상황도 지속되는 어려움을 겪고 있습니다.
특히, 자영업계와 특수고용 및 프리랜서 노동자들이 급격한 소득감소와 일자리 상실로 생계 위험에 노출되는 등 제도의 사각지대에서 더 큰 어려움을 이겨내고 계십니다.
그 동안 우리 시는 여러 차례의 대유행 고비를 잘 넘겨왔습니다.
이 가운데에는 일상의 불편과 피해를 감수하면서도 방역수칙을 철저히 준수해 주신 시민 여러분과 감염병 확산 저지와 치료에 혼신의 힘을 쏟고 계신 방역관계자와 의료진 여러분이 계셨기에 가능한 일이었습니다.
특히, 코로나19 확산 차단의 시작을 알린 진단키트의 개발과 수출을 책임진 7개의 기업이 포진하는 등 세계가 인정하는 K-방역의 선도적 역할도 하였습니다.

지난 1년은 코로나19로 제약된 정책 환경 속에서도 대전의 미래 100년을 위한 도약의 발판을 더욱 더 공고히 다진 한 해였다고 자부합니다.
대전 의료원 건립, 도시철도 2호선 트램 건설 등 수년간 지지부진했던 여러 숙원사업들을 대부분 해결했고, 스타트업파크, 태양광기업 공동활용 연구센터 유치 등 미래 먹거리가 될 새로운 혁신성장 동력들도 하나 둘 갖추면서 대전의 미래에 대한 자신감도 생겼습니다.

이를 통해 중부권 메갈로폴리스를 주도하고, 대덕특구 재창조와 원도심 활성화를 통해 대한민국의 혁신성장을 선도하는 글로벌 과학수도 대전을 실감할 수 있도록 하겠습니다.
먼저, 충청권 메가시티를 시작으로 중부권 메갈로폴리스의 거점이자 모도시로서 주변지역을 연계하는 광역도시기능을 한층 강화하여 지역을 넘어선 국가균형발전을 주도하겠습니다.
균형발전은 곧 대한민국의 미래이고, 이를 위해 충청이 중심이 되어 행정수도를 완성해야 합니다. 충청이 하나가 되어 수도권 기능을 분산하여 고르게 발전하는 대한민국을 만드는데 앞장서겠습니다.
