대전시와 한국과학기술원(KAIST)이 지역 확장현실(XR) 콘텐츠산업 육성 및 융복합 전문인력 양성을 위한 ‘개방형 확장현실(XR) 산학협력실’을 29일 오후 KAIST 문화기술대학원에 개소했다.

 

XR 산학협력실은 지난 7월에 대전시와 한국과학기술원, 대전정보문화산업진흥원 간 체결한‘지역 확장현실(XR) 콘텐츠산업 육성 업무협약’의 일환으로 구축하게 됐다.

 

XR 산학협력실은 XR 스튜디오와 제어실, XR 콘텐츠 창·제작실, 디지털 트윈기반 원격협업실 등으로 구성되었으며, XR분야 연구개발을 위한 데이터 취득, 실시간 프로토타이핑 및 사용성 평가 등을 진행할 3D XR 창․제작 장비 등 첨단 XR 장비를 갖추고 있다.

 

이번 산업수요 기반의 산·관·학 프로젝트를 통해 참여 대학원생들의 실무전문 역량을 강화하고, 지역 관련 기업과의 다양한 협력을 모색할 통합 플랫폼으로 활용될 것이다.

 

특히, 비대면시대 핵심 산업으로 주목되는 가상증강 현실분야의 신산업을 선도할 전문 인력 양성과 지역 관련 기업들 간 다양한 협력의 장으로 활용하여 과학, 문화, 국방 등 분야를 중심으로 특화 XR 프로젝트를 공동 발굴하고 연구하는데 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.
