[City Councilman Lee Jong-ho raises suspicion of preferential treatment at Shinsegae Science Complex]

Daejeon City Council member Lee Jong-ho (Democratic Party, Dong-gu 2) raised suspicion of preferential treatment for the Shinsegae Science Complex project promoted by Daejeon City as part of the expo re-creation project.

Rep. Lee Jong-ho said, "In the proposal of Shinsegae at the time of the competition, a landmark design representing Daejeon was presented at the 255th 2nd regular meeting of the Daejeon City Council, held on the 19th. He pointed out that it has disappeared and has been changed to an appearance that can be seen anywhere in Korea.

Congressman Lee questioned the fact that the cylindrical spiral design proposed by Shinsegae at the time of the competition was changed to the current planar shape at the municipal inquiry.

In particular, Congressman Lee raised suspicion that the design of the Shinsegae Science Complex project was changed three times through design changes.

Rep. Lee said, "Daejeon City has agreed to change the design three times for Shinsegae, but when the timing and procedure of design change are combined, there is a reasonable doubt that Daejeon City has actively cooperated." Asked, "What do you think is the benefit of Shinsegae from the design change?"

In addition, he urged, "We will disclose the details after grasping the exact circumstances in terms of the right to know of Daejeon citizens."

Heo Tae-jung, mayor of Daejeon, responded, "There are more design changes according to local characteristics, safety and utility than the aspect of corporate convenience."

"As the core was expanded while increasing the number of elevators from 8 units to 16 units, the oval shape was changed to a right angle shape due to a serious problem in space utilization, and there were some functional changes when the facility was changed to a facility equivalent to a 5-star hotel requested by Daejeon City." Explained.

Suspicion of the Shinsegae Science Complex project was also raised by the Industrial Construction Committee held earlier.

Rep. Lee Kwang-bok (Democratic Party, Seo-gu 2) of the Industrial Construction Committee said, “Daejeon City made three changes to the design of the Science Complex” at the administrative office audit held on the 10th of the Daejeon City Science and Industry Bureau. It is questionable whether it will become a mark, but if it is built on a flat surface, there is nothing special and what landmark will it be?

On the other hand, Shinsegae Science Complex is a complex entertainment facility equipped with hotels, neighborhood living facilities, science and cultural experience facilities, etc.with Shinsegae investing 600 billion won on the expo science park site, completed in August 2021 with a scale of 5 floors below ground and 43 floors above ground. Construction is currently underway with the goal of
