대전시교육청이 특수교육 지원을 강화하기 위한 대전특수교육원 개원식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

특수교육원은 지난 9월 1일, 동구 홍도동에 위치한 기존 대전특수교육지원센터의 기능과 인력을 확대, 시교육청 소속 아홉 번째 직속기관으로 승격하여 28명의 직원이 근무하고 있다.

조직은 기획연구과, 교육운영과, 총무과이며, 주요 업무는 장애영·유아 조기발견 및 상담 ,진단·평가 ,통합교육 및 순회교육 지원 ,진로·직업교육 ,보조공학기기, 치료지원 등 특수교육 관련서비스 ,장애학생 인권보호 ,교사, 학부모 및 보조인력 연수 등이다.

특수교육원 승격과 함께 교사 직무연수, 장학자료 개발, 교수·학습지원 및 문화예술·체육 활동 등 기능과 역할을 확대하여 운영하고 있다.
