Chungnam Provincial Council Agriculture, Fisheries, and Maritime Affairs Committee Seeks Ways to Strengthen Future Agricultural Competitiveness

During the 371st extraordinary session, the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Maritime Affairs Committee of the Chungnam Provincial Council (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) conducted field-oriented legislative activities by visiting sites related to livestock, beekeeping, and industrial insects.

On the 4th, the Committee visited the site of the ‘2026 Excellent Livestock Selection Contest’ held in Gongju City and toured the Industrial Insect Research Institute of the Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services to discuss measures to strengthen the competitiveness of related industries.

On the morning of that day, members of the Committee visited the event venue at Geumgang Singwan Park in Gongju, interacted with approximately 3,000 local livestock farmers and related personnel, and observed the exhibition of excellent Hanwoo cattle, dairy cows, and smart livestock equipment.

At the site, the committee members agreed that improving productivity through the selection of superior livestock and systematic bloodline improvement must lead to a substantial increase in farm income, and pledged continuous policy support to secure the competitiveness of the provincial livestock industry.

**Agriculture, Fisheries, and Maritime Affairs Committee of the Chungnam Provincial Council** Later in the afternoon, the committee moved to the Industrial Insect Research Institute and held a tea meeting with officials from the Chungnam Branch of the Korea Beekeeping Association. The members listened to the difficulties faced by the beekeeping industry due to climate change and honeybee diseases, and urged for strengthened close communication with the field to ensure that the research institute's achievements translate into increased farm income.

Members of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Committee, including Chairman Ji Jeong-geun (Cheonan 9, Democratic Party of Korea), stated, “The livestock, beekeeping, and industrial insect sectors are key pillars for improving the fundamental structure of farms and creating new income sources for future agriculture.” They added, “We will closely review the voices of farmers gathered from the field and the current status of research to actively reflect them in future budget deliberations and policy proposals.”
