충남 서천군이 지역 인재를 키우고 교육 환경을 대폭 개선하고자 내년도 교육경비보조금을 올해보다 17.7% 늘린 9억 9000여만 원으로 확정했다. 군은 지난 3일 ‘2026년 제3차 서천군 교육지원협의회’를 열고 2027년도 교육경비보조금 지원 안건을 심의한 결과, 12개 사업에 총 9억 9404만 원을 전액 군비로 세워 지원하기로 의결했다고 밝혔다.

이는 올해 지원액인 8억 4449만 원보다 1억 4955만 원(17.7%) 늘어난 규모다. 군은 학교 현장의 실질적인 요구와 지역 정주 여건을 면밀히 분석해 학생과 학부모가 체감할 수 있는 맞춤형 교육 사업을 우선 배치했다.

주요 지원 사업으로는 초등 돌봄 공백을 메우는 ‘초등 온돌봄 프로그램 운영’을 비롯해 ‘고교 인재육성 프로그램 지원’, 글로벌 역량을 키우는 ‘미래교육 국외 체험학습 지원’ 등이 포함됐다. 군은 순수 군비 투입을 늘려 지역 학교들의 재정 부담을 덜고 다채로운 교육 기회를 보장한다는 구상이다.

아울러 서천군은 교육경비보조금과 별개로 지방소멸대응기금을 적극 활용해 연계 효과를 극대화한다. 장항공업고등학교의 마이스터고 전환 지원과 서천학교 살리기 프로젝트 등 굵직한 인프라 사업을 차질 없이 추진해 인구 유출을 막고 지역 교육 생태계를 다질 방침이다.
