충남경찰청이 계룡시청 소속 공무원의 물품 납품 비리 정황을 포착하고 회계과 등 관계 부서를 전격 압수수색했다. 계룡시청을 향한 경찰의 압수수색은 올해 들어서만 벌써 세 번째다.

충남경찰청은 1일 오전 수사관들을 계룡시청 회계과 등 2곳에 투입해 관련 장부와 서류 등을 확보했다.

경찰은 계룡시청 공무원이 특정 납품업체 관계자로부터 사업 수주를 대가로 금품을 받은 혐의(알선수재)를 집중 조준하고 있다. 수사팀은 확보한 압수물 분석을 통해 금품 오간 경위와 거래 과정에서의 부당한 청탁 및 알선이 있었는지 여부를 철저히 따질 예정이다.

이번 압수수색은 앞서 진행된 이응우 계룡시장의 공직선거법 위반 혐의 수사와는 별개의 사안이다. 

경찰은 이 시장의 선거법 위반 의혹과 관련해 지난 5월과 7월 계룡시청에 대한 압수수색을 단행했으며, 지난달에는 시장 비서실 직원과 부서장 등을 소환해 입당 권유 및 금품수수 관여 여부를 조사했다.

이로써 계룡시청은 단일 연도에 세 차례나 압수수색을 받는 수난을 겪게 됐다. 경찰은 현재까지 두 사건 사이의 연관성이나 이 시장의 납품 비리 개입 정황은 확인되지 않았다고 밝혔다.

다만 경찰은 압수물 분석이 끝나는 대로 피의자인 공무원과 업체 관계자를 순차적으로 소환해 대가성 여부를 조사할 방침이다. 이 과정에서 상급자의 지시나 조력 정황이 포착될 경우 수사 대상이 한층 확대될 수 있다는 관측도 나온다.
