제9회 전국동시지방선거에서 충남 논산시장으로 당선된 국민의힘 백성현 당선인이 “정의로운 선거로 지난 4년의 성과를 높게 평가해 주신 논산시민 여러분께 깊이 감사드린다”며 당선 소감을 밝혔다.

중앙선거관리위원회 최종 개표 결과에 따르면 백성현 당선인은 52.64%의 득표율을 기록하며 더불어민주당 오인환 후보를 제치고 재선에 성공했다.

백성현 당선인은 4일 배포한 당선 소감문에서 “시민 여러분의 위대한 선택은 중단 없는 발전으로 논산의 미래를 열어달라는 특별한 명령”이라며 “논산을 잘 살게 하는 일, 살고 싶은 논산을 만드는 일, 논산을 가치 있게 변화시키는 일을 위해 모든 열정을 다 쏟아붓겠다”고 포부를 전했다.

백 당선인은 선거 과정에서 불거진 갈등을 뒤로하고 지역 화합을 이끌겠다는 의지도 분명히 했다. 그는 “우리는 자랑스러운 논산인”이라며 “선거 기간 발생한 분열과 갈등도 너그러운 포용으로 화합하고, 통합하여 하나 되는 논산을 만들기 위해 먼저 경청하고 앞장서 실천하겠다”고 강조했다.

이어 끝까지 경쟁을 펼친 상대 후보에 대한 위로와 선거 관계자들을 향한 감사도 잊지 않았다. 백 당선인은 “저와 함께 열심히 경쟁해 주신 오인환 후보님께도 수고하셨다는 말씀을 드린다”며 “특히 현장에서 헌신적으로 노력해 준 모든 선거운동원과 자원봉사자 여러분의 노고에 깊은 고마움을 전한다”고 말했다.

마지막으로 백 당선인은 민선 9기 시정 운영 방향과 관련해 “더 나은 시민의 삶을 위하여 주민 눈높이에 맞춘 ‘시민 밀착형 생활 정책’을 마음껏 펼쳐내겠다”며 중단 없는 논산 발전과 성과 창출을 다짐했다.

4일 중앙선거관리위원회 개표 결과 백 당선인은 3만1000표(52.64%)를 얻어 2만7025표(45.89%)를 획득한 더불어민주당 오인환 후보를 제치고 당선을 확정했다.
