6·3 지방선거를 하루 앞둔 2일, 국민의힘 오성환 당진시장 후보 선거대책위원회가 선거 막판 불거진 의혹 제기와 정치 공방에 대해 입장을 밝히고, 지난 시정 성과와 정책을 바탕으로 한 유권자들의 현명한 선택을 호소했다.

오 후보 선대위는 호소문을 통해 “당진의 미래를 결정할 중대한 선택의 시간이 다가왔음에도 정책과 비전 대신 근거 없는 의혹과 정치 공방으로 선거판이 얼룩지고 있다”며 유감을 표명했다.

선대위는 최근 선거 과정에서 제기된 상대 후보의 학교폭력 의혹을 정조준했다.

선대위는 “시민의 알 권리와 정확한 사실 확인은 무엇보다 소중하다”면서 “피해를 호소하는 시민이 존재하는 만큼 공직 후보자는 마땅히 사실관계를 명백히 밝히고 책임 있는 자세를 보여야 한다”고 날을 세웠다.

이어 오성환 후보가 지난 4년간 거둔 구체적인 시정 성과를 전면에 내세웠다. 

선대위는 “오 후보는 새벽이슬을 맞으며 밤늦게까지 현장을 누비며 시민과의 약속을 지키기 위해 헌신했다”며 “그 간절한 노력은 50년 만의 인구 17만 명 달성, 대규모 투자유치, 전국 최고 수준의 고용지표, 제2서해대교와 당진항 발전 전략 등 말보다 강력한 ‘실행의 결과’로 나타났다”고 역설했다.

선대위는 선거 마지막까지 네거티브 없는 정책 선거를 지향하겠다는 의지도 분명히 했다. 

이들은 “근거 없는 비방이나 흑색선전에 흔들리지 않고 오직 진실과 실력으로 시민의 삶을 어떻게 변화시킬 것인지 묵직한 비전으로만 다가가겠다”며 “감정적인 흠집 내기가 아닌, 사실과 정책을 바탕으로 후보의 진정과 능력을 판단해 달라”고 당부했다.

마지막으로 오 후보 선대위는 “마지막 순간까지 오직 시민만 바라보며, 당진의 더 큰 도약과 ‘30만 자족도시’ 실현을 위해 모든 것을 바치겠다”며 지지를 호소했다.
