국민의힘 최충규 대전 대덕구청장 후보가 본선거를 하루 앞둔 2일 대덕구민과 당원들을 향한 호소문을 발표하고, 대덕의 미래 도약과 혁신 완성을 위한 압도적인 지지를 간곡히 당부했다.

최 후보는 호소문을 통해 이번 선거는 향후 4년간 대덕구의 미래를 책임질 적임자를 뽑는 중차대한 분수령이라며, 오로지 대덕의 발전과 인물의 능력만을 보고 냉정하게 비교해 선택해 달라고 구민들에게 요청했다.

그는 지난 4년의 임기 동안 깨끗하고 정직하게 오직 대덕의 발전만을 바라보며 뛰어왔음을 피력했다. 

연축동 신청사 건립 본격화와 연축도시개발사업의 기틀을 마련한 성과를 전면에 내세운 최 후보는 대덕구가 다른 자치구와의 격차를 줄이고 대전의 중심축으로 도약하기 위해서는 단 1분 1초도 지체할 시간이 없다고 진단했다. 

현재 대덕에는 실험적인 정치인이나 검증되지 않은 초보자가 아닌, 이미 시작된 대형 사업들을 차질 없이 마무리할 수 있는 실전형 일꾼이 절대적으로 필요하다고 역설했다.

이와 함께 대덕의 지도를 바꿀 핵심 공약과 미래 비전도 재차 약속했다. 최 후보는 신대지구 디지털 물산업 밸리 조성과 대전조차장 입체화 개발 등 대형 프로젝트를 제 손으로 완수해 대덕의 백년대계를 세우겠다고 공언했다. 

민생 경제 활성화를 위해서는 소상공인 금융 지원책인 ‘대덕뱅크’와 경영 회복 지원금을 과감하게 확대해 골목상권의 자생력을 키우겠다고 공약했다. 

청년층 유입을 위한 방안으로는 청년 맞춤형 주거 공간인 'Nest 하우스' 공급과 현 청사 부지를 활용한 청년 창업·벤처 공간 조성을 제시하며 젊고 역동적인 대덕을 만들겠다고 다짐했다.

반면 상대 후보인 더불어민주당 김찬술 후보를 향해서는 도덕성과 책임감 결여를 지적하며 날을 세웠다. 

최 후보는 김 후보가 올해 초부터 당원 명부 유출에 따른 개인정보보호법 위반 혐의, 방송토론회 허위 사실 공표 의혹, 당내 경선 과정의 이중 투표 유도 의혹, 지방교육자치법 위반 의혹 등 수많은 위법 논란에 휩싸여 구민들에게 실망을 안겼다고 비판했다. 

특히 김 후보가 이러한 논란들에 대해 지지자의 일탈이나 시당의 탓으로 돌리는 등 책임을 회피하고 주위 사람들에게 잘못을 전가하는 행태를 보였다고 맹비난했다.

최 후보는 정치는 결과의 영광뿐만 아니라 과정의 책임까지 함께 짊어지는 자리라며, 성과는 함께 땀 흘린 공직자들과 나누고 부족함과 책임은 구청장이 앞장서서 짊어지는 책임 행정을 반드시 실천하겠다고 선언했다. 어려운 순간일수록 구민 앞에 고개 숙일 줄 아는 정직한 리더가 되겠다는 다짐이다.
