일방통행식 교육 행정을 탈피하고 학생과 교사, 학부모가 교육의 방향을 직접 결정하는 자치 생태계가 대전에 구현될 수 있을까?

성광진 대전교육감 후보 캠프는 교사노동조합연맹과 참교육학부모회 등 15개 단체로 구성된 연대와 ‘교육주권 실천 5대 과제 이행 협약’을 체결했다고 19일 밝혔다. 

이번 협약은 전국 16개 시·도 교육감 후보 중 최초로 추진된 교육주권 공조라는 점에서 상당한 의미를 더하고 있다.

이번 협약의 골자는 학교와 지역사회의 자치를 민주주의의 출발점으로 삼아 교육 주권을 구성원에게 온전히 돌려주는 것이다. 

성 후보가 공언한 과제에는 헌법교육 자문관제 도입을 통한 민주주의 교육 강화를 비롯해, 학생회 자치 예산과 시간을 실질적으로 보장하는 학생 자치권 확대안이 핵심으로 포함됐다. 

나아가 교육지원청장 주민 추천·공모제를 도입하고, 주민이 주도적으로 참여하는 마을학교 기반의 방과후 돌봄 자치를 활성화하는 한편 숙의 민주주의 공론장 운영을 확대해 민주적 공동체를 구축하겠다는 복안이다.

32년간 교단을 지켜온 성 후보는 지시 위주의 교육 행정을 현장 소통 중심의 거버넌스로 대전환하겠다고 약속했다. 

그는 현장의 참여와 존중이 살아 숨 쉬는 공간이 가장 건강한 학교라는 철학을 피력하며, 질문하고 토론하는 참여의 힘을 키우는 대전 교육을 완성하겠다고 강조했다.

Candidate Seong, who has served on the teaching staff for 32 years, promised to make a major shift from directive-oriented educational administration to governance centered on communication with the field.

Expressing the philosophy that the healthiest school is a space where participation and respect from the field thrive, he emphasized that he would complete Daejeon education by fostering the power of participation through questioning and debate.
