Dangjin Mayoral Poll: Oh Seong-hwan 42.4% vs. Kim Ki-jae 36.1%...
With the June 3 local elections just over 20 days away, the race for the mayoralty of Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, is heating up.
According to the results of a recent public opinion poll, the approval ratings of People Power Party candidate Oh Seong-hwan and Democratic Party of Korea candidate Kim Ki-jae are showing a close contest within the margin of error.
According to a suitability survey for the Dangjin mayoralty conducted by Sisa News and the polling firm The Opinion Co., Ltd. from May 6 to 8, targeting 500 adult men and women aged 18 and older residing in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, People Power Party candidate Oh Seong-hwan showed an approval rating of 42.4%, while Democratic Party of Korea candidate Kim Ki-jae showed an approval rating of 36.1%.
An interesting point in this survey is the difference between party support ratings and candidate support ratings.
In terms of party support ratings, the Democratic Party of Korea showed 38.9%, while the People Power Party showed 37.1%. In response to a question asking about the factors influencing the choice of Dangjin mayoral candidates, over half of the respondents (50.4%) cited "administrative experience and performance" as their top priority. This was followed by morality (18.5%) and political party affiliation (15.7%), indicating a high likelihood that this election will unfold as a contest between "administrative experts."
Meanwhile, the sample sizes for this survey by region are as follows: District A: Hapdeok-eup, Myeoncheon-myeon, Sunseong-myeon, Ugang-myeon (80 people); District B: Daehoji-myeon, Jeongmi-myeon, Dangjin 2-dong (92 people); District C: Songak-eup, Sinpyeong-myeon, Songsan-myeon (129 people); and District D: Godae-myeon, Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin 1-dong, Dangjin 3-dong (199 people).
Commissioned by Sisa News, this survey was conducted by the professional polling firm The Opinion Co., Ltd. over three days from May 6 to 8, targeting 500 adult men and women aged 18 and older residing in Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province. The survey method was a wired and wireless ARS telephone survey. The method of selecting respondents was 30% wired RDD and 70% virtual mobile phone numbers provided by the three telecommunication companies: SKT (4,143), KT (4,143), and LGU+ (2,054). The final response rate was 5%, and the margin of error was ±4.4%p at a 95% confidence level.
Weighting values (cell weighting) were assigned based on gender, age, and region according to the April 2026 resident registration population statistics of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
