더불어민주당 천안시장 최종 후보로 확정된 장기수 예비후보(이하 후보)가 4일 천안시청 브리핑실에서 기자회견을 열고 본선 승리를 향한 공식 행보를 시작했다. 

장 후보는 이 자리에서 “민주당의 후보를 넘어 천안시민 모두의 후보로서 당당히 선택받겠다”며 포부를 밝혔다.

지난주 치러진 당내 결선투표를 통해 본선행 티켓을 거머쥔 장 후보는 이번 경선 결과를 ‘변화를 향한 시민과 당원의 간절한 의지’로 규정했다. 

그는 “저를 선택해주신 것은 개인에 대한 지지를 넘어 천안의 정치를 바꾸라는 준엄한 명령”이라며 “그 뜻을 무겁게 받들어 천안의 새로운 미래를 설계하겠다”고 말했다.

장 후보는 이번 승리의 요인을 당심과 민심의 조화로 꼽았다. 

그는 “기존의 낡은 정치에서 벗어나 현장에서 답을 찾고, 정책으로 승부하는 새로운 정치 모델에 시민들이 응답한 것”이라며 “SNS를 통해 시민의 목소리가 실시간으로 공유되는 시대에 지연과 학연에 의존하는 구태 정치는 더 이상 설 자리가 없다”고 지적했다.

특히 이번 본선 행보의 핵심 동력으로 ‘강력한 원팀(One-Team) 체제’를 강조했다. 

경선에서 경쟁했던 구본영, 김미화, 김영만, 이규희, 최재용, 한태선, 황천순 후보가 공동 선대위원장직을 수락하며 힘을 보태기로 했다. 

장 후보는 이를 두고 “단순한 정치적 결합을 넘어 천안의 혁신을 위해 모든 역량을 집중하는 진정한 통합의 출발점”이라고 의미를 부여했다.

천안의 미래 비전에 대해서는 ‘관리’가 아닌 ‘경영’의 관점을 제시했다. 장 후보는 “현재의 천안은 현상 유지에 급급할 단계가 아니라 공격적인 경영을 통해 도시의 가치를 높여야 할 때”라며 “세대·산업·행정의 ‘3대 교체’를 통해 천안의 대전환을 이끌어내는 일하는 시장이 되겠다”고 역설했다.

장기수 후보는 실용주의와 성과 중심의 정치를 약속하며 “이번 선거를 통해 낡은 정치의 막을 내리고, 시민들이 체감할 수 있는 속도감 있는 변화를 보여주겠다”며 “가장 낮은 자세로 시민의 곁을 지키며 반드시 승리하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
