2027 충청세계유니버시아드대회 준비에 대한 해외 선수단의 첫 공식 방문국으로 미국이 스타트를 끊었다.

2027 충청 U대회 조직위원회는 미국 선수단의 넬스 호킨슨(Nels Hawkinson) 부단장이 12일부터 13일까지 이틀간 방한해 충청권 주요 경기장과 선수촌 등을 둘러본다고 12일 밝혔다. 

이번 방문은 해외 참가국 가운데 가장 먼저 이뤄진 공식 일정으로, 본격적인 국제 협력의 신호탄이 될 전망이다.

호킨슨 부단장은 방문 기간 동안 조직위원회 관계자들과 만나 숙박, 식음료, 교통, 문화, 마케팅 등 선수단 운영과 관련된 분야별 협의에 참여한다.

또한 대회 주경기장과 농구 경기장을 비롯해 주요 베뉴를 직접 점검하며 현장 준비 상황을 확인한다. 조직위는 이번 계기를 통해 각국 선수단이 안심하고 대회를 준비할 수 있는 최적의 여건을 마련한다는 방침이다.

특히 양측은 회의에서 미국 선수단 전용 숙박시설 확보 방안 ,교통 편의와 이동 동선 최적화 ,공동 마케팅 및 스폰서십 구상 ,충청권 관광 연계 프로그램 등 다양한 협력 아이디어를 공유했다.

한편, 2027 충청세계유니버시아드는 오는 2027년 8월 1일부터 12일까지 대전·세종·충북·충남 4개 시·도에서 열린다. 150여 개국 1만5천여 명의 학생선수들이 18개 종목에 참가해 세계 대학스포츠의 열기를 충청권에서 이어갈 예정이다.
