세계여성평화그룹(IWPG)이 지난 19일 10개 글로벌 지부가 공동 주관하는 ‘여성평화교육 7기 연합수료식’을 온라인으로 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 수료식에는 IWPG 회원과 내빈 100여 명과 함께 한국을 비롯해 일본, 튀르키예, 파키스탄, 카자흐스탄, 멕시코, 베네수엘라, 파라과이, 아르헨티나, 볼리비아, 니카라과, 코스타리카, 에콰도르, 엘살바도르, 과테말라 등 15개국에서 300여 명의 수료생이 참여했다. 

IWPG는 체계적인 평화교육 과정을 통해 여성들이 가정과 사회의 핵심 구성원으로서 평화의 가치와 실천 능력을 갖춘 리더로 성장할 수 있도록 지원해 왔다.

김화정 IWPG 글로벌 10국 국장은 “전쟁과 갈등이 끊이지 않는 국제사회에서 오늘의 수료식은 평화를 선택한 여성들의 용기 있는 시작”이라며 “이 교육을 통해 심어진 평화의 씨앗이 각 가정과 지역사회로 확산되길 기대한다”고 말했다.

멕시코 타바스코 후아레스 자치대학(UJAT) 교수이자 IWPG 평화위원장인 이본 아드리아나 가이탄 베르트루이는 축사에서 “평화교육을 마친 여러분은 변화를 이끌 주체”라며 “IWPG와 협력해 조화롭고 정의로운 사회를 만들어가길 바란다”고 전했다.

또 튀르키예 빌테스 초등학교의 교사이자 수료생인 아이셰 베르지올루는 “이번 교육을 통해 갈등 대신 대화를 선택하는 방법을 배우며 평화의 가치가 내 삶을 풍요롭게 했다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

멕시코 국립자치대(UNAM)의 카렌 엘리자베스 레온 로메오 평화위원장은 “이날은 교육의 마무리가 아니라 새로운 평화 프로젝트와 네트워크의 출발점”이라며 “함께 배우고 지지하는 연대의 흐름을 이어가자”고 당부했다.

이날 참석자들은 각국 공동체에서 평화를 제도와 문화로 정착시키는 주체가 될 것을 다짐했다.

앞서 IWPG 글로벌 10국은 지난 11월 멕시코 UJAT와 평화교육 협약(MOU)을 체결했으며, 향후 국립자치대(UNAM) 등 현지 대학들과의 연대를 확대해 여성의 평화 참여와 평화문화 확산 활동을 지속할 계획이다.

한편 IWPG는 유엔 경제사회이사회(ECOSOC)와 공보국(DGC)에 등록된 국제 여성 NGO로, 현재 122개국 115개 지부와 66개국 800여 협력 단체를 두고 있고, ‘지속가능한 세계평화 실현’을 목표로 여성평화교육, 평화문화 전파, ‘지구촌 전쟁종식 평화선언문(DPCW)’ 법제화 촉구 등 다양한 국제 활동을 이어가고 있다.

The International Women's Peace Group (IWPG) announced that it held the "7th Joint Graduation Ceremony for Women's Peace Education," co-hosted by its 10 global branches, online on the 19th.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 100 IWPG members and guests, along with 300 graduates from 15 countries, including Korea, Japan, Turkey, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Venezuela, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Guatemala.

Karen Elizabeth Leon Romeo, Chair of the Peace Committee of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), said, "This day is not the end of education, but the starting point of new peace projects and networks. Attendees pledged to become agents of establishing peace as an institution and culture in their respective communities.

Previously, the ten IWPG global countries signed a peace education agreement (MOU) with Mexico's UJAT in November. They plan to expand their partnership with local universities, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), to continue their activities to promote women's participation in peace and a culture of peace.
