내년 6월 전국동시지방선거과 함께 실시하는 대전교육감 선거 출마가 확실시 되고 있는 맹수석 충남대학교 법학전문대학원(로스쿨) 명예교수가 6일 오후 대전컨벤션센터(DCC)에서 ’미래교육, 현장에서 길을 찾다‘라는 제목의 출판기념회를 열었다. 

교육 현장의 갈등을 해소하고 소통 중심의 변화를 이끌겠다는 비전이 담긴 자리로 마련된 이날 행사에는 박범계, 장철민, 장종태 국회의원을 비롯해 허태정 전 대전시장, 류명렬 남부교회 담임목사, 한기온 충남대 총동창회장 등 정계‧교육계‧종교계를 아우르는 700여 명이 참석해 성황을 이뤘다. 

박정현 민주당 시당위원장과 황운하, 황정아, 강경숙 의원은 영상으로 축하를 전했으며, 이한주 경제인문사회연구회 이사장, 한용호 한국소비자분쟁조정위원회 위원장도 축전을 보내 격려했다.

맹 교수는 인사말에서 “단 한 명의 아이도, 단 한 명의 교직원도 잃지 않겠다”는 입장을 밝히며 “학생이 자존감과 자율성을 갖춘 민주시민으로 성장할 수 있게 하는 것이 교육의 본질”이라고 강조했다.

그는 대전교육의 구조적 문제점을 지적하며 “불통과 소극 행정이 아닌, 상호이해와 중재를 통한 문제 해결 시스템을 교육청이 조속히 구축해야 한다”고 제언했다.

또한 “학교 현장의 갈등을 실질적으로 조정할 수 있는 위원회 형태의 상시 중재제도를 마련해 학생‧교직원‧학부모가 함께 참여하는 공교육 체계를 확립해야 한다”고 밝혔다. 

이어 “대전교육은 모든 역량을 모아 아이들의 희망찬 미래를 가꾸어야 하며, 자신도 한 시민으로서 그 책임을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

맹수석 교수는 1959년 충남 홍성 출생으로, 충남대학교에서 학사·석사·박사 학위를 취득하고 일본 도쿄대학교 방문학자를 거쳐 충남대 교수로 임용됐다. 로스쿨 원장을 역임하며 법학과 교육현장을 잇는 실천적 학자로 평가받고 있다.

Maeng Su-seok, Professor Emeritus of Chungnam National University Law School, who is expected to run for Daejeon Superintendent of Education in June next year, held a book launch event titled "Future Education: Finding a Path in the Field" at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) on the afternoon of the 6th.

The event, designed to showcase his vision of resolving conflicts in education and leading communication-centered change, was attended by approximately 700 people from the political, educational, and religious communities, including National Assembly members Park Beom-gye, Jang Cheol-min, and Jang Jong-tae, former Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong, Ryu Myeong-ryeol, Senior Pastor of Nambu Church, and Han Ki-on, President of the Chungnam National University Alumni Association.

Park Jeong-hyeon, chair of the Democratic Party's city committee, and lawmakers Hwang Un-ha, Hwang Jeong-ah, and Kang Kyung-sook sent congratulatory messages via video. Lee Han-joo, president of the Economic, Humanities and Social Research Institute, and Han Yong-ho, chairman of the Korea Consumer Dispute Mediation Commission, also sent messages of encouragement.

In his opening remarks, Professor Maeng stated, "We will not lose a single child or faculty member," emphasizing, "The essence of education is to enable students to grow into democratic citizens with self-esteem and autonomy."

He pointed out structural problems in Daejeon's education system and suggested, "The Office of Education must quickly establish a problem-solving system through mutual understanding and mediation, rather than a lack of communication and passive administration."

He also stated, "We must establish a permanent mediation committee-style system that can effectively resolve conflicts at schools, establishing a public education system in which students, faculty, and parents participate together."

He added, "Daejeon education must mobilize all its capabilities to foster a hopeful future for its children, and as a citizen, I will fulfill my responsibility." Professor Maeng Su-seok was born in Hongseong, South Chungcheong Province, in 1959. He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from Chungnam National University. He served as a visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo in Japan before becoming a professor at Chungnam National University. He served as Dean of the Law School and is recognized as a practical scholar who connects law and education.
