권선택 전 대전시장이 12·3 불법 계엄 사태 1주년을 하루 앞둔 2일 “국민의 위대한 열망이 모여 새로운 대한민국이 탄생했다”고 밝혔다.

권 전 시장은 2일 지난해 계엄일 국회 내 현장 사진이 포함된 페이스북을 통해 “온 나라를 혼란에 빠뜨렸던 내란의 소용돌이 속에서 지난 1년은 참으로 고단한 시간이었지만, 절망 속에서도 희망을 발견했다”고 회고했다. 

이어 “불법 계엄 당시 여의도 국회의사당 앞에 모였던 국민들의 거대한 물결, 평화롭고도 결연한 의지를 보여준 시민들, 추운 겨울 속에서도 새로운 문화로 자리잡은 ‘은박지 키세스 단’의 모습에서 국민의 저력을 봤다”고 말했다.

권 전 시장은 이어 “그날의 감동과 자부심이 결국 새로운 대한민국을 만들어냈다”며 “이제는 완전한 내란 종식과 정의로운 마침표를 찍기 위한 국회의 역할이 중요하다”고 강조했다. 

또한 “국민이 납득할 수 있는 내란전담재판부 설치 등 사법 개혁과 진실 규명을 통해 국가 정상화의 길로 나아가야 한다”고 촉구했다.

권선택 전 시장은 “내란 극복과 사회 안정을 위해 보이지 않는 곳에서 헌신해 온 많은 분들이 진정한 영웅”이라며 “우리는 위기를 기회로 만들어온 민족인 만큼, 다시 한 번 상식이 통하는 정의로운 나라를 향해 함께 나아가자”고 덧붙였다.
